This was an enjoyable show. Of course, everything here is very subjective, but there were a couple of glaring omissions in my opinion. I believe "Somewhere My Love" (Lara's theme) from Dr. Zhivago and "Speak Softly Love" - from the Godfather should have merited mentions in the top 100. I wonder if these two songs were considered more of "themes" in some sort of AFI categorization process? Aside from that, Eminem's song from 8 Mile - give me a break!

Lorna Luft commenting on Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead was a RIOT!! She said how it soundslike such a sweet, cute song until you realize what they are saying (i.e. "YAY! The evil bitch went to hell!")

Hmmmm, its good to see The Time Warp was in consideration. I'm a little surprised that "Tomorrow" by the redheaded orphan girl didn't make the top hundred.

does anyone know when they are re-airing this???
Stayin' Alive is #9? I wouldn't even put that "song" in the top 10,000.
i was kind of dissapointed with the list as a whole. So many great songs were left out. However, the top 2 were appropriate.
Though all the songs on the list are great any everything, I think the order should have been different. "Summer Nights" should have been higher on the list.
Edited b/c I got the wrong version of the song! Thanks South Fl Marc!
Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend is from GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES sensually sung and danced by Marilyn Monroe. I'm sure they meant that version and not the one in Moulin Rouge.
I was a little disappointed that Hakuna Matata made it on. If your going to pick a Disney song there are better ones even from that movie, how about 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight'? Or from Cinderella, 'A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes'?
Oh, does anyone know what criteria was needed to get on the top 100? Was it how good the song was or how popular it was? If it was based on populartity then Stayin' Alive deserves being #10. Everyone knows the song, the dance, and what movie it was from.
From the AFI website:
"The Criteria
The jurors were asked to consider the following criteria while making their selections:
Feature-Length Fiction Film: The film must be in narrative format, typically more than 60 minutes in length.
American Film: The film must be in the English language with significant creative and/or financial production elements from the United States.
Song: Music and lyrics featured in an American film that set a tone or mood, define character, advance plot and/or express the film's themes in a manner that elevates the moving image art form. Songs may have been written and/or recorded specifically for the film or previously written and/or recorded and selected by the filmmaker to achieve the above goals.
Cultural Impact: Songs that have captured the nation's heart, echoed beyond the walls of a movie theater, and ultimately stand in our collective memory of the film itself.
Legacy: Songs that resonate across the century, enriching America's film heritage and captivating artists and audiences today."
Some songs I thought should have been included:
"When You Believe" from The Prince of Egypt
The theme from Mahogony
"Because You Loved Me" from Up Close and Personal
"Colors of the Wind" from Pocohontos
"Why Should I Worry" from Oliver and Company <---it's the only good part about the movie.
I forgot about the movie "Oliver and Company"! I like the song "Once Upon a Time in New York City" from that movie. (I think thats the name)
I, too, thought Staying Alive should have been a bit further down on the list. I was also a bit disappointed that Chim Chim Cheree from Mary Poppins didn't make the list.

And there are some Oscar winners which didn't make the grade either.
Also, where is THE SUMMER KNOWS? And CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG
...And A MAN AND A WOMAN ( oops, that was a foreign film)?
