oh dear...
well, I was curious, but my curiousity often does get the best of me. I think I'm going to be traumatized for a bit of time. I saw Deborah sing EAL (the *normal* way) on TV a few weeks ago, and did admit that I was indeed pleasantly surprised, despite my hatred for stunt-casting. Anyway, I listened to the remixes just a minute ago, and I'm not sure what to say. While I think that more people should be exposed to theatre than those that are, I feel like there should be a very strict line between Broadway (or theatre in general for that matter) and such mainstream things as nightclubs and radio stations. It bothers me that the line is obviously being crossed with this music, and I'm really upset by it. Easy as Life is one of the most powerful songs in AIDA, and, IMO, turning it into a nightclub or radio remix really takes away a lot of its integrity.
I don't know... but there's my two cents.
*puts in AIDA OBCR* to hear it the way it was supposed to be done.

Posted: 4/3/04 at 10:21pmAlthough AIDA isn't my favorite show, think of me pulling a Zsa Zsa Gabor and cyber slapping you in the face. AIDA shouldn't be in the club.

I honestly thought it was a joke when I'd first heard about the song going into production, however, as a Deborah Cox fan and an AIDA fanatic - I can't say that I'm disappointed.
When I first saw AIDA, "Easy As Life" was the song that hit me on the most personal level - and it's one of the songs that keeps me running back to the Palace everytime AIDA is re-cast.
If it is released as a dance single, Deborah Cox is going to have yet another hit under her belt.

Some people really kill me with their holier-than-thou attitudes when it comes to certain things.

Posted: 4/4/04 at 1:03amWell, I definitley think that the original is much powerful and amazing than this mix, but I do have to admit that I kind of like the idea of having broadway music in mainstream radio. I mean, no radio station (in Tennessee) plays Broadway music and this way at least a hint of Broadway gets through to audiences that don't have any idea what Broadway is all about. Even though they have to mix it to bring it to radio, at least there is a story behind the song that people can check out and find AIDA the musical!

Posted: 4/4/04 at 11:17amI agree with the "Hollier that thou"! Why not just enjoy the fact that Deborah is getting to have this amazing chance to reinvent herself and the AIDA for not only a whole new audience but for those of us that love her and the music.

i like the radio mix, tho i think they strayed from the lyrics a bit much. her voice sounds good.
okay, there are some shows which can cross into mainstream becasue they have that certain mainstream appeal, especailly musicals which incorporate pop music like aida and wicked. i would love defying gravity to get time on the radio (though that is one that i would not like to see mixed like EAL) as shows like aida and wicked are produced with this type of modern music, those of us who are familiar with them in their origional forms are just going to have to get used to seeing them watered-down for the masses. its not something i always agree with, but there are certain situations in which it can bring larger audiences to a show, and if a remix can do that then i am all for it.

Do we not remember that only years ago broadway musicals were the radio hits of the day?
Why do we bash Broadway songs on the radio?

Posted: 4/4/04 at 3:51pmthe people who complain about an Aida song becoming a club hit are the SAME peeople who wonder why Broadway isn't more mainstream. Stop being hypocritical, people!! I think it's AWESOME that a showtune can become a club hit. Yay for Deborah!!!

Posted: 4/4/04 at 10:13pmI'm not saying that Broadway music shouldn't be played to a wider audience, aka on the radio. I'm saying that it shouldn't be changed so that it fits into such a medium... and it certainly doesn't belong in a nightclub. Disagree if you wish, I don't care. Everyone's entitled.

Posted: 4/5/04 at 12:57pmI think its awesome. Broadway should cross over, anything to make people more aware of it.

Posted: 4/5/04 at 1:18pmI think it's great that a pop version o a Broadway song is being released. It gives Broadway a more mainstream audience, and I actually like the beat and the way the song was remixed. I'm thrilled for Deborah, and I'm all for more pop sounding Broadway songs being remixed---at least it's a GOOD singer and performer doing her own version of it.

I hear it debuted (or will debut this week) at #4 on the Billboard Dance charts. This may be Deb's next #1 club hit!
Glad to see it's being received so well.
