The last time I saw Aida I was pretty close and everyone in the cast was spraying spit everywhere when they sang. It was gross -and weird..I've seen lots of singers and shows and had never noticed this before.

Oh that is too funny! I've seen a spray here and there but then again I don't really try to get seats that close. I try to get at least between 8th and 10th row back.

Yes -- I saw a show called the Moliere Comedies at the music center in LA...we were in like, the first row, and the actors were spraying spit like crazy every time they spoke.

I hear Douglass Sills really showers the audience in LSOH.

IN addition to all the overpriced souvenirs, maybe they could sell "Aida " plexiglass face masks to protect against the spitting. The only thing they do not sell is "Aida" suppositories

Douglas Sills DOES spit everywhere. MY friend and I were in tears laughing when he sang his song because there was just huge wads of spit flying from his mouth to the people in the front rows. They had to hold their playbills over them so they didn't get wet.

But I think he may have done that as part of his character because he just spit SO much, more than anyone I've ever seen before. And his last line in the song is: "SO SPIT!" So it might have something to do with that. I didn't want to ask him in case it wasn't. Heh.

I'm surprised someone hasn’t brought a towel–you could sell it on E-bay afterwards. Guaranteed spit from your favorite Star! Someone would buy it. re: re: re: re: AIDA Spitting

BTW, Can they clone from spit????? re: re: re: re: AIDA Spitting

They were huge spitters in Grapes of Wrath when it was on Broadway a few years (gosh.. has it been a while?) ago.

Sorry but I got ya beat there--I was "blooded" in the first play I ever did--"A Christmas Carol". Got hit square in the nose with a Christmas package and had a nose bleed.

Wow, that is the absolute worse. I was doing the comedy Harvey for my school school and the other actor on stage was giving this big frustrated speach to my character, and he was just so into it that he spit right in my face. And I really didn't want to make a face or wipe it away (although now that I look back on it, that would have been funny), so you just kind of stand there, feeling this wetness on your face, and not being able to do anything about it. But luckily I got the hell off the stage right after. That was nasty.

I am so sorry DofB....

I recall once at the dinner theater once where i was doing children's theater that there were little kids in the front while I was doing my song. I was a the mean mean Riddle King in Raggedy Ann and Andy. At the end of the number this little kid threw his hotdog at me and nailed me right in the face.

When I watched the "Makeover Story" w/Sutton and Jennifer I coulda sworn I saw something fly out of Sutton's mouth during one of the TMM clips they used.

C'mon - this just happens onstage!

But - isn't there a friends episode where Joey tries spitting all his lines and gets raves for great acting or something??

yes there is and it is hysterical. I just think that if it ois so extreme where the 2nd balcony patrons can see every bit of spittle then it is overkill.

Douglas Sills does spit a lot the worst is when he has the mask on it drips sown the side I thought I was gonna be sick.

But the worst of all the spiter I have see what over the summer I say the Predecessors and the Max who I think is still the Producers Max spit with ever single word that came out of his mouth it was petty bad you could see the cast swatting it away and flinching.

Also Both of the Fosters spit a little more then others do. But I have nothing against people who spit a little on stage if it's working for them I mean I love Sutton on stage. Spiting is just a hazard of the job. It happens

When I saw Little Shop, EVERYONE was spitting up a storm. It's totally part of Doug Sills' character, and if you notice, he spits ten times as much as the Dentist than as anyone else. That's why the "Now SPIT!" is so funny at the end of his song...it always gets big laughs because most of the audience is like "Eww, why is that guy spitting so much?" and then they get that line and they're like "Ohhh, hahaha, so funny." I saw it from the second row to the left both times I saw it, and when Hunter came over there during "Meek" he was spitting like a mofo. I also noticed lots of spit from Rob Bartlett. That was a spitty show.

Off the topic of spit and onto Snot... did anyone else see Little Shop and notice Hunter was sniffling in between every line? It was my 2nd time seeing it and I didn't remember him sniffling that much the 1st time...but literally after every line, he'd sniffle. My mom said it was probably a character choice because Seymour's nerdy...and nerds usually have colds? lol, but I don't think THAT much sniffling was part of his characterization.

Douglas does spit a lot, but that also has a lot to do w/how much of himself he puts into his performance. it was great in Pimpernel when he talked about the fountain of himself. and he would spit, it was great! I love him.

spitting! it used to be our goals to sit close enough to see spit fly! we thought it was cool...i watch for thing like that now... i know one actor who spits an unhuman amount when he sings...and just kept thinking what it would be like to have to do a love scene with him while he was spitting everywhere...hehe

George Hearn spit so bad during Sweeney Todd that the second time I saw him I brought an umbrella, I'm not kidding.

There's only a few shows I've sit really close for, but I've noticed a lot of spitting! I don't think it's really something they can help, though it can get amusing. The worst is when it's supposed to be a really emotional song, but you can't help but laughing by the spit flying. This happens to me all the time at Rent, while watching Mark Richard Ford sing "I'll Cover You: Reprise". Or Matt Caplan sing anything.
