Obie winner Stevie Walker-Webb, director of Broadway's Ain't No Mo', has joined the creative team of the new musical Gun & Powder.
Following a 2020 run at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, industry reading presentations of the musical will be offered December 15-16 in Manhattan. Walker-Webb will direct.
eaturing book and lyrics by Angelica Chéri and music by Ross Baum, Gun & Powder is inspired by the true story of Mary and Martha Clarke—African American twins—who passed for white to help settle their mother’s sharecropper debt and seize the funds by any means necessary.
Solea Pfeiffer (Almost Famous) and Emmy Raver-Lampman (The Umbrella Academy) starred as the Clarke sisters in Signature Theatre’s world premiere under the direction of Robert O'Hara. Casting for the reading has not been announced.

I'm excited to see that this show is finding life again. I saw this at the Signature before the Unpleasantness started, and generally found it to be in decent shape. My vague recollection (it has been some time) is that the show needed quite a bit of tightening - some parts of the book dragged a bit, and there was a solo ballad that I thought was completely unnecessary. But Solea and Emmy were an incredibly dynamic duo, and I hope they can replicate that, wherever this is headed next. dynamism.
