That's probably it. I was in the back of the orch so maybe it just looked like she did. But one of my friends who saw her on a later date said that she did do the nudity.

And I think they sign the contract for stimulating sex and not nudity.

My question is that hasn't Lea been working on this piece for a number of years (I think I heard since she was 13!). If so, did the sexual overtones/situations ever come up before?

My roommate saw one of the first preveiews of SA and swears that Lea did not expose her breasts at that time...so wonder if she turned 17 after the run started...and they added it in.

When was this preview, Action? Earlier on? I saw it Off-Broadway and there definitely were breasts.

The interview of Lea that was posted on this site a while back (it was a video interview) talked about the nudity. She said it was just put in a while back, and they never really talked about it. I don't think she mentioned a particular time in the process of workshopping the show.

i think you just thought u saw krysta's breasts. she is the only actress who did not do the nudity. it's true, trust me. alexandra is wonderful in the role of wendla and the fact that she looks so young is fantastic. it is truer to the original concept of the wedekind text and makes the play more powerful in my opinion.

She says no about a hundred times before finally giving in. It's rape. Period.

Mayer said that he wanted to make the sex between Melchior and Wendla 100% consentual. I mean in a way she does consent (if you can even call it that) but it's still rape. It's the one of the main problems I have with the show. I hate that they've made it seem like Melchior and Wendla were in love and that's why they had sex, I think it ruins the message a little bit. Oh well, that's for another thread I guess.

I don't think he made it seem like they were in love. They're barely together other than that scene, the beating scene, and word of your body. the only time they kiss (a romantic sign) is in the hayloft scene, and that's because of lust, not love.

I think it's more though than just her "wanting it". While I agree that she gives in at the end I don't think it's necessarily because "wants it" as much as she's confused and overcome by her own lust which to me is very vaid and interesting. It's her moment of discovery and loosing control to desire which I think Michele captures beautifuly. I don't think that it should ALWAYS be played that she doesn't want it 100%. I don't think that there is anything wrong with playing it that way but I think it's just as valid to perform it with her wanting it but being scared and timid and curious which illicits screams of "No". She's shown in earlier scenes that (whether she knows it or not) that she has a sexual appetite and I always read that that's why she seeks him out that night in the hayloft. To me Lea plays the scene perfectly and infuses these quiet but very firm sexual drives in Wendla that come through strong and clear in the hay loft scene and it's stunning to watch. That being said, I loved what I saw Socha do and it was terrifying and scary and more on the rape side of things and I loved her Wendla. To very different choices on how to a play a scene. Both as valid, in my opnion.
