"Michael Ball likes to dress up as women"?
it's not that he likes to, he HAS to, or he has no job. He might not like it, but it pays the bills.
I've always hated ALW, always will. Him and his music. He has yet to write a good song, with lyrics that match. Saying this about Michael Ball and John Barrowman, just makes me deteste him more.

"I would like to hear it for myself, but I'm not about to listen to a 120 minute interview with Andrew Lloyd Webber to do so."
Then your opinion has no merit.
TheKandyLife, Michael loves dressing up as a woman...so Lloyd Webber wasn't wrong there...
Phyllis Rogers Stone, I really don't think that that's a homophobic comment, but the fact that you insinuate that cross-dressing is synonymous with homosexuality is quite homophobic...

Eff off, ClapYourHands. Then this thread has no merit, because no one has listened to it. How about you tell us at what time the comment is made?

Are all the British as deliberately dense as you? I'm not insinuating cross-dressing is anything. Lloyd Webber gave the example and then he and the interview agree that a "man" is something other than that.
You keep saying I'm wrong, but you've not actually giving an support to that. Just saying that I (and I guess by extension most everyone else in the thread) don't understand British humor or that my point is invalid because I haven't listened to a 120 minute interview to parse the sentences in question doesn't make what I'm saying less true.

There are plenty of Brits I find funny. Hilarious, even. Andy Loud Webby isn't one of them. He should stick to his day job.
And if by "British humor" you mean lame, homophobic, archaic quips about guys in dresses and guys we can't even talk about because they're so gay, then you're right, I don't get that. I also think you don't get British humor, even if you yourself are British.
This isn't humor at all, it's called being a jerk.

The Clap has a documented history of not knowing the difference.

Posted: 10/8/10 at 12:36pmI see this as a joke. If you watch any of the Doctor Who interviews, they always say something about John being a male whore and stuff like that, and it's said very jokingly. It's all in the name of fun. I love how people bash him for a comment but agree with each other that they can't wait for him to die. Yet, Patti can take jabs at folks, and be all serious about it, and people praise her for it. Whatever!

I see it as a joke. It obviously is a joke.
A bad joke. A bad, stupid joke.
To all the people here that "get" British humor- did you see that statement and chortle to yourself?
It's not that people here don't "get" British humor (as if it's some esoteric concept); I'd wager that most of them do, and perhaps even enjoy it a lot of the time. It's that, regardless of ....style, I suppose is the word, it's not funny.

Hmm, i'm willing to say that whether the joke is homophobic or not is purely subject to opinion.
I don't find it homophobic in the slightest...

He may or may not have put his foot in his mouth. But for all his monetary success, I think Lloyd Webber is a deeply insecure man. He comes across as nervous every time I've seen him speak. He may be pimping Phantom out to schools and Love Never Dies as the next big thing because he's afraid he will go down in history as a one trick pony...even though he's done little to remedy that, with rehashing said Phantom and pimping it out. (I'm having nightmares already.)
Don't know where I'm going with this (and feel free to unleash the barrage). Point being, you can have billions in the bank and still be socially awkward. I think such is Lord Andy's case, and it can be quite painful (social awkwardness).

Is there any chance ALW was being ironic and self-deprecating, considering he's a limp-wristed bitchy little goblin who fulfills the 'man' sterotype about as much as Liberace?

Posted: 10/9/10 at 6:33amWebber has a great friendly working relationship with both of these men. He was making a couple jokes at his friends expense. Everyone does that. This is without a doubt one of the lamest topics of discussion so far this month. Webber has many faults, this isn't one of them. If you happen to hear Ball or Barrowman getting upset over this, then hate away, until then grow up, and get your panties out of a twist.

Come and see John Barrowman and the Krankies (and you thought vaudeville was dead) this Christmas here in Glasgow. I will explain this tradition in another thread. Pantomime is the biggest employer of actors, singer, dancers here in the UK. From November to January its everwhere in the UK.
