So help me out, which is better, lottery or traditional rush?
(If nothing else, which is better for you?)
ha. This is hard to say. Personally, I'd almost say lottery... because I can't be there til about 4:30, and that gives people fair chance. Then again, I never win lotteries.
Technically, a lottery is the fair way to go, because if people can't get there early enough, it doesn't put them at a disadvantage. But people who CAN be there at 10 a.m. feel cheated. Usually I'm all for first-come, first-served rush, because I feel like if you want to put in the effort to get there early and wait, then you deserve the tickets -- but of course being put on the side of those unable to be there to get on line early... I don't know!
I think a lot of people will say lottery, because of the fairness factor.
The selfish part of me would say rush. I think if you're willing to camp out, then you should be able to be rewarded for that. Though I know a lot of people have work/class, etc, and it is kind of nice not to have to blow the whole day waiting in line. Though part of me has this vision of having only the 15 tix available, having 16 people show up, and me being the schmuck that doesn't get a ticket!
Both have their pros and cons though. Dunno...I'm no help, sorry!
It's hard. There's personal desire, and then desire to be fair. Silly ethics!
It's hard to even guage how many people will show up, you know? Maybe only a dozen or so will turn out? Maybe if it was rush all 15+++ would be there by noon. I think this is the first time that rush has been offered for a benefit like this, so it's hard to tell what the best route to go about it will be...at least having some affordable option is a step in the right direction!
How about you just reserve some seats for me, Em, Liotte and the others who've been vocal about wanting to take advantage of the rush seats, and everyone else can just fend for themselves...or is that what Em was talking about when she mentioned being unethical?!?
Exactly. I mean, there are like four or five who have POSTED that they're going -- plus lurkers. I doubt we're the only board who knows about this... it's really hard to tell. Plus, you have to sort of guage if people will be willing to skip school for this, and stuff. It could be ten, it could be fifty.
I'm going to put a cardboard cutout of myself on line.

There's a thing up on the Rent blog site about it!

Well...
I...know I can get there at a decent time so I'm probably biased in writing this...
Yes the lotto is fair...and yes not everyone can get there at the same time or early enough, and we shouldn't encourage ppl to skip school to wait on line and such...
However...
It's more than just the people who are willing to camp out should be rewarded...i just feel that...if you turn it into lotto, it becomes easier and more accessible and then students who maybe even pass by see it and say oh this looks cool as opposed to those of us who have been posting here absolutely dying to go
But then again some of us who have been posting here absoultely dying to go can't make it early at all..
I don't know. At this point, I think if I couldn't get the student ticket, I'm doing some extra tutoring this week, so I could do the $75 but I'd much rather do the $25...so right now I'm totally confused as to what to do and plan...
Well...n/m...I did some thinking...if there's a lotto and not that many seats I don't think my chances are great...even if there's the rush I'd be getting there at 3 to wait 5 hours, wouldn't know how I'd get dinner and such...
so decided w/ the extra tutoring combined w/ extra time, it was worth it and just got the $75 seat...plus it's for a good cause. Row A of mezz, seat 123, not bad.
peeps- I don't know the layout of the American Airlines theatre but would there be room for SRO. Behind the orchestra section would be nice but I wouldn't mind standing in the mez either.
Her post seemed to imply that they'd look into it... she said something about "legal." I thought that's what she meant -- capacity-wise?
I thought the legal part she mentioned referred to giving away some of those Bloomingdale promotion tickets to students if those ppl don't show up.
Again peeps, even though I have my ticket, one more heartfelt thank you for doing everything you can to allow students to see this, esp. considering it's a benefit.
aaah, okay. 'cause I know there are capacity issues and the like.
I think I'm just going to run down there right after class, books in hand, whatever. I'll eat after the show if I can get a ticket.
Alright Em, well we'll keep in touch, and well I can't guarantee but I suppose for anyone else planning to wait in line hours...I should be down a bit before, eat my own dinner maybe, but I will be around the line...so offered to Em but why not everyone else...feel bad if you won't be able to have dinner, so let me know if you want me to pick you up pizza or McDonald's or something so you guys can eat on the line.
aww, thank you.
Any word on whether it was decided that it'll be rush or a lotto??...or if there'll be SRO? Just wondering when I should aim to get there. Part of me is almost hoping for a lotto, because I really shouldn't be kicking around waiting for tix for hours on end.
Thanks a bunch!!
Well, I'll be joining you at 4:30. If I see someone who looks like they've been there forever, I'll say hi.
Cool. I don't know what time I'll go. I'm out of class at 10, but there's no way I'm going anywhere near that early. I'll wear my red glasses tomorrow. That'll make me easy enough to pick out!
And I'll probably have a backpack full of books. I... have no idea what I'm wearing. I'm just going to bring my homework and hang out. Possibly nap. General camping-out merriment.
Ew...looks like it's supposed to start raining around 6 tomorrow! Faboulous! *sigh* The things we do for theatre.
Hopefully we can wait in the box office. *packs umbrella*
I still can't get there til after work, so not until after 6pm. So I vote for a lotto, which I'll definitely try if I can!!!
So since peeps hasn't gotten back on, I guess it is a line, first come first serve tickets tonight. Oy.
I guess...I don't know if I'm even going to bother. I've got a test tomorrow, and a paper due, and a SH*Tload of reading to do (I suppose I could do that in line, but)...I just have too much to do and it's too damn cold out to be sitting in line for hours on end. I don't know. Maybe I'll show up later this afternoon. I think we should have voted for the lotto. While I do agree that it's nice to do first come, first served, waiting in line for 8+ hours around midterm time is just crazy!
Good luck Em, Liotte and all! Maybe I'll see you there, but right not it's not looking particularly promising. I wish I knew how many people were getting there/when. I know if I get there at 2, nobody else will show up until 4:30 when Em comes, and if I show up at 5, there'll already be a line down the block!
Oh well...it's still great that they're even offering it, so I'm glad some people will get to enjoy the deal, even if I don't get up there.
Well last night I checked tickets that were still available out of curiousity, b/c Friday night I got a front row center mezz ticket...as of late last night, the seats they were offering was the last couple ones in row B of mezz...makes me infer there's still a lot of mezz tickets available in rows C-G. So hopefully students can get a lot of tickets...of course in that case I'll wanna slap myself for not waiting and paying extra, but again...will tell myself good cause. Good luck everyone! I'll be checking in w/ Em on the line at some point so I'll perhaps see anyone else there.
