Thanks, Mr. Sorkin, for perfectly articulating everything a lot of us were thinking.

Um...Setoodeh is a "prominent" critic...? Did I miss something? Who is he?
This "prominent" critic seems to have lined up his target perfectly and then shot himself in the foot.

We're having an interesting conversation about this on the Off Topic Board

Posted: 5/13/10 at 12:32pmAaron is absolutely right. It is the Perez Hilton's and TMZ's of the world that are ruining things for actors... and in truth, many actors themselves since so many buy into that machine and tip TMZ off when they are eating at some sushi place in LA as if we care. I always have had more respect for the actors that keep it about the work and not about their private lives... and for the actors that sadly get caught in this when they don't want to (the Jen Anistons, etc...) I turn to the US weeklys and Perez, etc as the REAL culprets. Aaron hit this issue right on the head.

Posted: 5/13/10 at 12:59pmSorkin offers an insightful point; what he does not offer, however, is an effective explanation for (defense of) Setoodeh's original misguided editorial. Setoodeh lives and writes in the flawed reality which Sorkin so effectively critiqued; his words are to be judged by the standards of our flawed real world, not by those of Sorkin's superior hypothetical one.

Yeah, but this is actually something that's appropriate for the On Topic board, so I think it's okay that two conversations are going. A lot of people who just want to talk about theatre don't ever go to the OT.
Personally, I think it's because certain people (mostly straight and mostly male) get icked out when they have to think about two men having sex. And knowing someone is gay makes them think about two men having sex. I really think it's no more complicated than that.
