Ugh, the Academy of Music is a terrible theater. It's beautiful, but it's a beast. The sightlines aren't very good and it's too big for it's own good.
Yes, they're pretty good, I think. But you have to watch out for the rear corners of sections in the Academy- some of the sight lines are horrible. I think you'll be OK that low down, though. In the ampitheater level (the top one), a lot of the seats are obstructed view, even if they aren't marked as such.

Actually the academy is a great theatre. The acoustics are amazing. It's just old and needs a bit of a renovation.
I think that I just don't like how it's horse-shoe shaped. That makes the view very obstructed if you're not in the center.
Despite the Academy's beauty, some of the sightlines in the Ampitheater remain horrific, which I say as a regular patron of the Opera Company of Philadelphia who has sat all over the place up there.

I don't doubt that. I think it just needs to be renovated. I don't think it's horsshoe shape. That's what helps the accoustics. It's probably the large pillars all over the place. The seats aren't the most confortable either.

I like it, I go to The Nutcracker there every year.
Wow, haven't been to the Academy in years! I am from Philly but live in denver (14 years). Yes some sightlines are bad. Acoustics are decent though. But I am sure the new venue's acoustics are much better. (For the orchestra). Memories! I saw my first opera there, Carmen.
