Tony & Emmy Award winning actor (and president of the Screen Actors Guild) Ken Howard died earlier today. The original Thomas Jefferson in 1776 which he of course got to reprise on screen.

Saw him in 1776, Seesaw & Promises Promises. I also remember him from The White Shadow. He was also in a series called Cane on CBS which also started Rita Moreno and Jimmy Smits.
A large loss for the acting community . R.I.P.

Sad news. He was a favorite, especially in "1776". He co-starred with Gwyneth Paltrow frequently and her husband Bruce created "The White Shadow". Aside from "1776" he co-starred with Paltrow in the short lived ABC situation comedy, "Adam's Rib".
May he R.I.P.
He co-starred with Gwyneth Paltrow
You meant to say actress Blythe Danner - actress Gwyneth Paltrow's mother.
He is so great in the SEESAW cast album and in everything else I've seen him in. I always loved his appearances at the SAG Awards. RIP, Mr. Howard, thank you for the great work you left behind.

Sad news. I admired his performances in 1776, CHILDS PLAY and SEESAW. Sympathies to his family.

Shame. He will be missed.
He was rather passionate regarding the Sag-Aftra merger.
He was absolutely hysterical in the later seasons of 30 Rock. Never realized that was Jefferson!
RIP. Thought he was great in 1776 and The White Shadow. Seemed like a truly classy guy.

So sad. I had a chance to meet him after a performance of 1776 at Ford's Theatre a few years ago, and he was nothing but gracious in the face of a 30-something woman babbling about how that show changed her life.
I saw him first when I was a teenager as the handsome heroic gym teacher at a Catholic boys' school where the boys were possessed by the devil.
You can probably see why I was so captivated by him and then again by his performance in Seesaw.
He was probably my very first crush when I saw the film version of "1776", I thought that his red hair was amazing (I didn't know it was a wig). I watched every episode of "Adam's Rib" and "The White Shadow". He was such an amazing actor!

I had the pleasure of working with Ken Howard at the Gateway Playhouse in 1966. He played Joe Cable in South Pacific. May he rest in peace.
