Considering how well Kristin did with The Apple Tree's "Gorgeous" I would LOVE to hear her do "Babbette." Great score, good choice.

I loved the show originally. Madeline Kahn was let go and the show made Judy Kaye a Broadway star. A great score, a show-biz plot, beautiful scenery. It is funny, sophisticated, complex musically, a spoof of the operetta style done very well. I, for one, think it is a great choice!

I think Christopher Sieber would do great as the jealous boyfriend.
P.S. I ditto the idea of Cheno as Mildred Plotka/Lily Garland since Madeline Kahn is her idol. Plus it would be a lot of fun seeing a Christian playing a Jew! lol! But I don't know about her schedule, she might still be filming R.V. in Canada.
KRISTIN by all means..Kevin Kline to play Oscar Jaffe (he played Lily's young lover in the original)

Kevin Kline is a very interesting choice. I could also see John Lithgow or even Tim Curry. Elaine Stritch as Primrose would be incredible. I levitate thinking of Kristen singing "Babbette!"
I think it's nice that Seth chose something different this time rather than another "pop" musical. I also think it's funny that all these posters who I am sure have never seen or heard this musical are complaining. Go pick up the cast recording-- seeing this as a youngster was one of the fondest memories of theatre-going career. Funny, well-written, great score.
"Stranded, again! Screwed, again! Cheated out of two weeks wages in Chicago!" "Repent, for the time is at hand!" "Max, I love your play!"
Seth was saying on his Sirius show that he originally wanted to do "Annie" and cast all adults, especially those who auditioned for the show when they were younger, but weren't cast. I thought it was a cute idea.
I am super excited about this though!

I agree this is a great classic show! It's not revied often be cause it's got a killer set, very expensive. I saw this with Judy and Rock Hudson as Oscar Jaffee and Imogene in Chicago during the original tour. It was an amazing show. What about Marin Mazzie as Lily. I think Nathan Lane would be perfect for Oscar in a different way. I think the role needs a more husky voice. Sieber would be great as Bruce. Elaine Stritch would also be great as the nut.
I have always thought Andrea Martin would be a good Mrs. Primrose, but I just thought of something. Why not have Judy Kaye play Mrs. Primrose? I know she's too young, but she's a great actress and could definitely pull it off. They should also find some way to bring John Cullum back for the concert. He was great as the original Oscar Jaffee. I think Kevin Kline would be a wonderful Oscar for the concert.

I had the thought last night: How about Mandy Patinkin as Oscar? I think it would be fun to see him spoof himself a little bit.
And Chayenne Jackson as the young boyfriend?

Wait!! How about Brad Oscar as Oscar? (Ironic, ain't it?)

Even though I'm still trying to go for Cheno, I saw a production of On the 20th Century at the Barrington Stage Company in Massachusettes. The leads were Kim Crosby as Mildred Plotka/Lily Garland (yes, that Kim Crosby, the original Cinderella in Into the Woods) and Dennis Parlato as Oscar Jaffe. Another Into the Woods alum was Joy Franz (the original Stepmother) as Mrs. Primrose the Nut. So maybe Franz as Crosby could repeat their respective roles.
P.S. Just for giggles, I would like to see Savion Glover make a comeback as one of the tap-dancing Red Caps.
JCS? Even though it's not being done, I don't think they'd do it. Besides, aren't the rights tied up right now in certain areas due to the national tour (McCoy/Rigby, Really Useful, Nederlander)?
More casting -
Congratulations, Cheyenne!
JoAnne Worley as Primrose---Didn't see that one coming.
Joanne Worley? I'm sooooooooooo there.
