Actors Selling it All on Ebay These Days?

What's with the current trend of actor's from Patti Lupone on down selling tons of their "crap" on Ebay? I think Dance of the Vampires was the biggest example of this and browsing Ebay tonight I see that it's still going on.

Isn't it strange to sell things that were personalized to you?

I don't know...but I heard from a good pal of MC's that he brings his spongie ding-dong to fan parties and they all have a good hoot at that. So unless there's more of those hanging around (heaven forbid), that's one item not for sale( thank goodness).

What difference does it make if someone wants to sell their own personal items? It's no different than having a garage sale. Much of those items can garner big bucks.

I know some actors that make as much on ebay in one week as they do doing their broadway show in one week.

I joke not....Broadway has never been known for a career that will make someone rich....unless you're a big name, most actors on Broadway aren't rolling in the dough...

Also, these items for sale are from lame shows such as Dance of the Vampires and The Capeman. The Boyfriend? What is that?!

one of my friends in DOTV said that Crawford would only sign cast items with "Michael" because he thought it was only going to end up on eBay. Crawford would also not sign any POTO items for cast members or for any fans waiting at the stage door...only DOTV...only MICHAEL..

MC signed DOTV Playbills and the posters for the fans with his full signature, scrawl though it may be. Backstage, among cast and crew, who knows. Maybe he signed it "Michael" because he thought it was more personal, since he had been working with them for months. You would prefer Mr. Crawford?

Seems to me this is bordering on "damned if you do, damned if you don't".

some of that stuff is bogus too. i have worked on 1 or two of those shows and some of the stuff he lists as being given to the crew was not.

Liz Mccartney is the biggest offender lol. She sold all her stuff from Dance of the Vampires, and is now starting with Taboo. Her name is witchatbay on Ebay.

Laugh and make snide remarks about actors selling their show items but look at what some of the items fetched on ebay; I think should answer your question as to why people would sell their items......

Yes, because they can save the signed items and sell it on ebay themselves.... why should the fans make all the cash!

In general, you rarely will find a broadway actor reluctant to sign something for you at the theatre. In fact, I've never seen an actor actually say no.. I've seen them say no in other settings like a bar or restaurant, which I understand. They are "off duty" so to speak and out with family or friends and as fans, people should respect that.

I was with a friend who was visiting from California this week and we ran into Boy George at a bar. My friend asked if he could take a picture with Boy George and Boy George simply said: "No" and turned around......
