"Stephanie J. Block speaks and sings with very distinct, almost harsh, enunciation on stage."
Yeah but that's how she talks off stage, too.
I find Stephanie J Block's voice to be much softer and pleasant off stage.
The voice Kacie Sheik uses for Jeanie in Hair sounds absolutely nothing like her actual speaking voice.
Phylicia Rashad also used a very distinct-sounding voice for Violet Weston, especially when she got angry.

WAIT, WHAT. Colm actually sounds Irish in that video! I AM SO CONFUSED. Why would he speak like Sean Connery onstage?
What's worse is many Valjeans after him copy that mannerism (I think Gary Morris is a good example).
I KNOW. I was so astonished to hear how Colm Wilkinson actually talks. I own like different recordings with him, and he does the same bizarre 'stage voice' for everything... (two Les Mis, one Phantom, one Evita). I think maybe he thinks that his stage voice sounds like a typical Englishman or something. 0_0
fashionguru, I just think it's weird considering their personal lives that Ann Reinking would intentionally copy Gwen Verdon's voice.
Marc Kudish is a lot quieter in real life than in character
I love the voice Kacie Sheik uses on stage.
James Barbour uses a bizarre sort of stage voice.
I agree about James Barbour-- his stage voice is hilariously grandiose. But his real voice sounds a lot more like his stage voice than most actors who do the 'big bad melodramatic deep voice.' He does exaggerate it, but not as much as I would have expected.
Matt Cavenaugh has the same accent on-stage as off.
Thanks for playing.
