Any thoughts? It slightly annoys me. I think it's a tad bit tacky.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:12pmWhy not? It's about them. If people are interested in your performance, Im SURE they would want to check it out. I'd like to know if the performers have websites.

I have no problem with it.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:15pmWhy not? They get 50 - 75 words to sell themselves in their bio. Why not offer a way to learn more about them IF you want to.

I think it's fine....it's just another source of information about the performer.

I don't think it's tacky at all..this is the way we largely communicate and receive communication these days, for better or worse.
The first one I remember seeing (and actually going on) was John Tartaglia's site.

I don't think it's tacky, either, for the reasons mentioned above. Why shouldn't they include that?

But wer bios ever really about self-promotion like they are now. When I saw Tonya Pinkin's bio which listed none of the shows she was in, and then her website, I thought that was tacky.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:22pmbobby--what do you think actors' bios listing their credits ever was before web sites? And what difference is merely informing the audience altruistically of their previous work in a bio or on a web page?

Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:25pmThey pretty much are for self-promotion. It promotes what you have done in the past and future (if you have roles booked). A bio is to show the audience who they are. Especially, in case they may have seen them in a show, they can relate to them.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:26pmI guess I just hate change. I love my bios straight forward, credits, and that's it.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:28pmBobby - though I'm not against the website in the bio thing, I too prefer the credits and schooling listed. The Tonya Pinkins exampe you gave (no credits but a website) would prolly be one of those 'things that make ya go 'hmmmm' for me as well...

Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:29pmNothing's really changed with bio's, except technology. Actors now have websites. If they can't fit all their shows into the short bio, give the website and you can see EVERYTHING they've done, lol.

Considering the actors usually are given only a few words for their bios (Unless they are the stars of the show) a web site is a perfect way to find out more about the actor. Isn't that why you read bio's, to find out something about the performer playing the role?
Along the lines of bios, can we make a law stating that they can no longer use the word "thrilled" in a bio? Seems to me everyone is always "thrilled" to be in a show.

Have you ever seen bios for non-pro theatre? "I am very happy to be in this show. I was in Wizard of Oz and Nunsense last year. Big kissed to Mom and Dad."
I hate bios in the first person.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:35pmI think it's a great idea.... especially if you don't get the room to list all your credits. Frankly, an actors website tells you so much more about the actor than their bio ever could.
