He did close Aida, but yeah, because he was brought back for the final few months as, "hey look original cast member is back!" The closing and his return were announced in the same press release. I remember because I was 17 and didn't know whether to cry or run around my house.
Kind of. Cabaret was already closing. That was announced a while before they announced that Adam was coming in. (I jumped to buy tickets as soon as they made the closing announcement not knowing about Adam, and they ended up being for like, the week before he started -- which would not have happened if they'd been concurrent. 17-year-old me made no such errors. ) It was originally just for a few weeks, the show extended into the first week of 2004 and he stayed.
Is age really a factor in any role in Chicago (especially this production)? There's really no specification in the text on age. Billy could be 20 or 70. Or any other role, really.
I think there are other cast changes for Chicago, too. A few weeks ago, Angel Reda (who is listed as Go-To-Hell Kitty on the website) said it was her put-in week as Velma Kelly. Also, she had just done production shots, so I think she is taking over the role officially soon from Amra... if she hasn't already.
Adam was good. What you'd expect. Needs to loosen up a bit, but will get there.
Pedi was pretty flawless. She got by far the biggest laughs and applause (even over Velma and Roxy). After seeing Lillias and Carol, who were both excellent, it was great to hear it done in a really brassy "broadway" way.
I am happy I'll get to see him in June since I am coming for the Tony Awards

Lolieve...Amra Fay Wright is "Chicago's" Velma till August 2013, according to Telecharge. So, there's not really much of a chance that Angel Reda will fill in for her, unless there's an absence or two along the way. The other Velma understudy is Donna Marie Asbury. from RC in Austin, Texas. P.S. Here's a video of Adam and Christine...by Broadway.com Adam Pascal and Christine Pedi
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
Also, Amra was on vacation a few weeks ago which allowed Angel to go on. Not sure how many more times Amra will be out from now until August. As she is rarely out of the show. And Donna is a fabulous Velma understudy.
