Wow...kudos to Adam for having that high a range, first of all! And I'm no voice teacher, but it probably is a case of the jump. If he follows the music as is until he hits "the note" it goes from one "voice" to another "voice" if that makes any sense. Like, going from chest voice to head voice for a female. I think that's what is happening anyways, and that would explain the difficulty.
Good points guys.
The problem is he tries to sing it in chest. When I saw him, he squeaked on the "will" but nailed the "forget." The mixture of singing it in chest, weird vowel, and huge jump make this note damn hard. I'm sure he wouldn't want to take it in falsetto, it'd be sort of an easy way out and it'd sound much different in the phrase, switching from chest to falsetto and back to chest. He could always mix it, but going from chest to mix between that large of a break is still extremely hard.
Kudos to him for attempting it and even squeaking it out.
And kudos to you AG for pointing out that "Will" is harding to sing. I hate singing "I still believe" for that reason (and that EVERYONE sings it!) I just feel that I can never sing "still" properly and make it sound good.

Actually, the note (as sung on the CD) is a B natural, not a C#. He's definitely capable of hitting it. I'm not sure why he cracked it all the time. Jeremy Kushnier hit it perfectly on the tour every time....

WHOO FOR ADAM!!!! *praises her shrine*

So why can other people hit it and not him? Does it have to do with proper technique?
TGITF: Just a suggestion, but try opening up the front of your mouth more, it helps me sing those "-ill" words. Makes it sound fuller and less awkward. Also, say the word "ill" and the first part of the word is what I focus on with long "-ill" words. The "ih" vowel sound. Try it and let me know if it helps!
If it is a B natural, it should be MUCH easier than the C sharp. I'm sure all the same difficulties apply, but it's a little lower. Still pretty high, but definitely in his range. It's still a very hard note to hit with those circumstances.

his range is crazy!! kudos for that!
*sings infront of computer screen* "I stiiiiiiiiiiill..." Thanks! Haha. Sadly I doubt I will be doing alot of singing. I used to sing with my HS's concert choir, and now in college I want to focus more on my classes. At least for the first semester. Hopefully I can keep doing it. Its such a same to give it up!
our professor always had us use "weeel" or "steeel" instead of "wihhl" or "stihl" it's extremely easier to do. *sings...I steeel believe....*
I think his voice is just wearing out form not being able to sing so his voice lasts.
Yesterday, I was listening to my friend's copy of the OBCR, but this morning I went to get mine and IT'S MISSING! I've got the CD case, but no CD and I have absolutely no idea where it went! Ahh! AHHH!!! And it was from the Palace too, so it had the colored photo of the OBC 3 on it, not just the B&W image! I'm going to cry.
When I heard Adam live, his voice actually cracked. Like a teenage boy.
BTW, does anyone know if Adam wrote the songs that he sings in School Of Rock?
Sorry for the threadjack.
No, he didn't write those songs.
'Fight' was written by Warren Fitzgerald & Mike White (who also wrote the script and played Ned)
'Heal Me..' by Craig Wedren

Adam got to the point where he rarely hit the note, yet still tried. That is part of why it became "the note", and it still amuses me that so many know exactly what note it refers to. Will Chase never even tried for it, and the one time I saw Jeremy Kushnier, he got it, had it for a second and then lost it miserably.
I was getting texts from Aida closing telling me Adam had hit "the note". It was such a rarity, my friends couldn't wait to get the news out!

So what did Jeremy and the others do with The Note? And why didn't it get lowered so people didn't crack all the time?
Broadway Legend Joined: 10/7/03
Jeremy was capable of hitting it, it was the keeping it that seemed to be a problem. It was lowered for Will, which was why he never had a problem. Probably was for others, too, and should have been for Adam when he stopped hitting it regularly, but alas, there is pride. Or lack thereof.
"but alas, there is pride."
lol... oh, but it's true!

Men. This is why I want Catherine Zeta-Jones, she wouldn't have the male macho pride issue and is the only woman I've ever been attracted to... But really. Adam shoulda lowered it, but what's done is done. Did it sound bad?
I think people who have not actually heard him sing WILL FORGET live have this impression he must sound like a guinea pig that is about to get slaughtered. Seriously guys, it never sounded THAT bad. Yes, he squealed the WILL out but the FORGET was always perfect. The average theatre goer would have not really picked up on the fact that the WILL was a problem for him.
I have seen the show with quite a few friends and they never picked up on it. We do but that's because we are very critical and know his perfomance by heart. Watch me do his FFTB dance

Well that makes me happy. You guys always make it sound horrible, I'm glad it's not so bad.
QM is right. "Forget" was always right on, even if Adam did squeak. Again, his range allows for it, no doubt.
... she can do that dance, too.

What is the dance? I can not picture Adam doing anything that resembles dancing.
And I make a most excellent impression of the I'll never take you sailing gesture

The note Adam sings is not actually written in the score. The other Radames just sing it as written. Adam's note is something that he did himself, and he chose to do it that way every time.
You'd actually be surprised at how many things the OBC changed from the original score. Many of the adlibs stuck, and the replacements copied them.
