Alright kids - I'm creating a thread for you all to share lots of lovely details about the show. Post your hearts out!!
One bump before I go to bed.... and a HUUUUUUUUUUGE thank you to TGIF. Love ya!
Great show! Support the tuesday suits! Emcee check my review at the adam pascal forum. TOo tired to write another. Sorry!
It was alot of fun tonight. The Tuesday Suits were good but played way to long. This should be a rule, if you have a band to open for you don't have them play as long as you do.
Adam was great as usual. Made a few snarky comments to some of the muppets in the audience. Speaking of that, it was a great crowd, the room was packed. Some of the girls were having alot of fun singing along. I believe he sang his entire album but he may have left one out *shrugs*. I did feel bad because his guitar string broke or it came loose. He just stood htere holding the string flipping it around. He then turns to us and says "This is the universal symbol for 'HELP!'" It was funny.
Adam took a break from singing to say that a bucket was going to be passed around and he wanted everyone to spit into it. Yes. Spit. Then he said he would drink it. I almost threw up right there. Well it turns out he was joking and the bucket was for donations to help out (I know i will get the name wrong) Doctors without Borders. I put as much as I could spare, it looked like they were doing good.
the guitar string i have to admit was funny and i also found the bucket funny. Some old rockers like alice cooper made jokes like that. I also thought it was funny when he made fun of the fans. You have to be able to make fun of yourself!

isn't he supposed to be out in San Fran right now?
They are on vacation. Thats why there were all those threads worry about anthony rapp because he is vacationing in one of the countries affected by the earthquake. (he is ok though.)

he came back specifically for this show...i was pissed he didn't sing glory, even though I'm sure he's sick to death of it due to rent rehearsals, but come on! that was worth my twenty bucks right there! other than that a good show, he rocked out a little harder than he did at joe's pub, although I think his voice wasn't in as good a shape as it was at joe's
maybe they're working him too hard in san fran.
I am actually glad he did not sing Glory. He is not just "Roger" and he is trying to promote his CD - which I find amazing. Give him some credit, his life moved on after he left RENT. Also, if people ask him to sing it he won't want to. I have a feeling he is very touchy about that.
Also, he didn't come back specifically for the show. He does have a wife and kids and is on vacation.
Ok, I'm back too...
Loved the gig. I personally prefered the Knitting Factory to Joe's Pub. It's an all standing thing which works better for Adam's music, I believe. Good to see some 'regular people' (who were obviously Knitting Factory regulars) turn up for the gig too, so great crowd. A lot less muppets and therefore screaming at this gig too, the occasional 'We love you, Adam' came up but as TGIF mentioned, he silenced them by squealing back
I think the set was pretty similiar to the one at Joe's Pub. As far as I can remember, he did every number from Civilian plus Model Prisoner. I loved the fact that he didn't do any show tunes. He refused to sing Glory when people demanded it and I loved him for it. Not the right place to do Glory and he's done it as a 'surprise' in the past but it wouldn't have been right yesterday. So good for you, Adam!
He started off with Ordinary Men Abound (if I remember correctly), then continued with Book Of Endings. Book Of Endings has to be one of my favorite tracks on Civilian and call me silly, but the track is such a highlight for everyone that I prefer to hear it towards the end of the gig.
I seem to remember that he opened the gigs at Joe's Pub with Tomorrow And The Sun (my all time favorite) and Beautiful Song which worked better for me. I know this might be silly but hey, I have to find some criticism, right?
He was 'rocking' a lot harder than usual and really let it rip. I thought his voice was in fine shape and he looked great. Still very long hair and still very thin, guess he'll stay that way for the Rent movie.
What I noticed was that he was a lot more sarcastic than he usually is. He tended to reply to sreaming and comments in an ironic, sometimes sarcastic manner and I was wondering if some people thought he was being serious.
For example, when he was tuning his guitar the audience started to talk amongst themselves, so he suddenly looked at the audience saying 'Excuse me, there is a gig going on here'. He has a very dry sense of humour, so he delivers comments like that without bating an eyelid. I had this feeling that some audience members got the impression he was being serious.
Also, every time one of the muppets would squeal at him he would squeal back at them in the exact same voice. Really cracked me up...
Squealy fan girl voice: 'Adam'
Adam in a squealy fan girl voice: 'Yeah'
When one girl asked him to perform one particular song (don't quote me on that as I couldn't really hear what she was saying), he said he wasn't going to do it. So she told him that he apparently promised her last time she saw him, so replied 'Well, honey, I promise a lot of things, just ask this audience, that doesn't mean I'm going to keep them'
So as you can see, he was being a bit of a 'cheeky chappy' yesterday... I could go into a lot more details but don't want to bore everyone to death.
What I really noticed yesterday was how emotional and angry he seemed during certain numbers. He dedicated I'm With You to 'his two babies and all the babies that lost their lives this week' which got to me and him too, it seemed
He was mentioning how depressing he finds the world at the moment and that most of the time he hardly wants to leave his home anymore. I know he mentioned this at Joe's Pub before but he was refering to this 'depression' in the past then, whereas now he seemed to mean the present again (excuse me? I'm over-analyzing stuff??? You gotta be kidding
)
His Civilian (his anti-Bush song) was VERY angy ths time. I know it's an angry song to begin with but this time he meant it from the bottom of his heart. He sneaked in a few f-words too. Nice one!
He finished the gig with Wonderchild which was a great track to end this wonderful gig with. And again, maybe it was me but he seemed very angry/emotional during that one too.
Overall, a great gig, loved seeing him again and really hope it won't be a long wait to see him again. Seeing him doing his own stuff is very rewarding, it's what he is best at. So if you've seen Adam on Broadway and liked him, you should definitely check out his own gigs, they are 100% worth it!

PS. I am VERY sorry about this detailed review but since the 'detail whore' is on vacation, I felt it is my duty to take over this task.
Thank you for taking your time to read it.

I had a really good time. I am kind of wondering where the love for the old-school was, though. ONE song off of Model Prisoner? Yeah, you're trying to sell your new album, but come ON. Another one or two would have fit nicely in the mix instead of playing practically ALL of Civilian (minus Mother's Child, which I would have killed to hear live).
I'm making it seem like I was disappointed, totally wasn't. His new songs rock. Especially the rock songs. Particularly loved "Ordinary Men Abound", "Ringing in my Ear", "Civilian" and I can't remember the name for the life of me, track two on the CD. Adam was in amazing vocal form, I was really excited to hear that. He jabbered a lot between songs, explained a few songs, told a few stories, made some funny comments. The band kept rushing him when he needed to tune, leading to a lot of "Hold ON!"s and after the guitar string broke, something along the lines of "Can you wait a minute, do you see the cluster**** I'm in?". He got really into some of the songs too, as someone else said. I actually thought he was going to cry after the song he wrote for his kids.
So yeah, it was definitely worth the money, I just hope that next time, when Civilian isn't so new, he'll mix it up a little bit. It would be fun to hear "Ordinary Boy" or "Precious Little Meltdown" in a setting like that.

You mean Tomorrow And The Sun, girlfriend. My favorite song! Absolutely wonderful live

Yeah great reviews! I agree with tgif and others about glory. In fact i did not want to hear that or any other showtunes. Anywho, one audience member screamed out sing cellophane sun and that is when adam made the promises comment. The gig was awesome and his making fun of the fangirls was hilarious! Other things, i was talking to glen the guitarist after the show and he said they wre doing the view and the early show but were taking a break for the movie. It also turns out he is from my hometown! Taye Diggs was there. I know because he bumped into my friend lol! I also love how there were people there who weren't broadway fans! Just my opinion. Oh and the tuesday suits kicked ass!!!!!
Thanks so much you guys, to QM and TGIF for the wonderful favor they did me, and to everyone who posted. I was really bummed that I had to miss this, and it means a lot to me that you guys did what you could to help make it better.
I think he started with 10,0000 Miles and then went on to Book of Endings (see? Detail whore is still in action...). I could hear that he was talking, and I could hear the tone in his voice, but I couldn't tell *what* he was saying for the most part. I did hear something about a bucket... and I noticed that he was in a bit of a snappy mood. As long as I'm not the target, I love seeing him bitch people out. Schadenfreude much? Yes. I love seeing his personality, even when it's not so pretty.
F-words, huh? He did Civilian right after talking about the bucket, and Doctors Without Borders, and I guess that fit really well; you can tell that these things are really close to his heart. I wish I could've seen the emotion on his face, but I could hear it in his voice. Girlfriend, I've heard Mother's Child once in person. It's impressive, and more than a little bit intimidating.
Anyway, I'm so glad to hear he was really rockin' last night. Sans cell phone static, I think he sounded in top form. I'm glad he didn't do Glory. People used to ask all the time, and I was always glad (I know, mean of me) that he didn't do it just to please. Now he's begun to do it on occasion as a bit of a surprise for his fans, because he knows we want to hear it, but if he starts doing it all the time, or just because people demand it, it's not going to be special anymore. And, from what I've read, the venue doesn't really seem like it's the place for showtunes.
Oh... and the guitar string! Did he whine about it?
Thanks again for posting, everyone. <3
Rock on, Adam. We love you.

I brought my 18 year old brother, who enjoys Adam very much as a musician and as an actor as well, and it was interesting to see his take on the scene. He was amused by Adam's reactions to the fans (which were a bit snappy, but entertaining!). I thought he handled the Glory thing well, with simply a "not tonight, kiddies", and that was it, no one else asked and it was let go. I like Adam's personality a lot, and I think he gets a bad rap sometimes because he really just... is.
Were you at the second Joe's Pub concert? I loved watching the way he handled the younger fans....
"he really just... is."
Exactly... he's just a normal guy, doing his thing. I guess that's what I meant about seeing him not always be so nice. He's usually really good, but he's not there to put on a personality that he doesn't have. He's almost always as sweet as can be, but when he's not, that's completely cool, too.
*sigh*
I'm so glad you all had fun.
Emcee, he didn't really whine about the guitar string, he was pretending to cry about it though which was funny. He had a lot of the 'pretending crying' going on last night. For example, when he returned on stage after people demanded an encore he said 'Oh, you love us' and pretended to cry about it!
The only thing he sort of whined about (and understandably so) was the constant feedback his mic gave him, he wasn't happy about that and demanded for it to be fixed. You tell them, boy!!
And believe me, everyone, you don't want to know the story behind the 'bucket' *disgusted face*
And zippyjen, yes, that was it! Cellophane Sun! I couldn't quite hear her. Thanks!
QM
hahaha! Crying a la the red microphone incident? Fabulous(ity). "oh, no! My beautiful red microphooooooooooooone! *sob*"
Dork.
TGIF told me the whole thing about the bucket. About some guy who once drank a bucket full of... eh, I'll spare the readers. Charming, Adam. Really.
I though tthe bucket while gross was hillarious and he mentioned Alice Cooper! I understand that he doesn't want to be the guy from Rent who is having a concert. He solo work is great and he shoul play more gigs. He handled the "little ones" with a dry sense of humor which i loved! However i was made when he stoppped glens guitar solo while he was tuning. I know it was in good fun but don't stop a guitar solo!
Okay, you know it's coming. Someone comment on the attire.
nothing weird about the attire! Khakis and a plain turtleneck which happened to of had a small hole on the sleeve!
ha. TGIF had said she wanted to fix that hole.
I'm disappointed! No overly tight pants? Nothing weird? What has California done to him?!?!
California has done adam good! Sorry but the sparkly pants kind of freaked me out!
awww, I love them. The beauty is that he can make the strangest stuff look good.
'The beauty is that he can make the strangest stuff look good.'
Like the obvious mascara he was wearing?
