Ah, I am glad you guys had fun this morning!
When that girl said that Adam promised to sing Cellophane Sun, I was very tempted to shout out "Adaam! You promised me a pony!" in the most whinny voice I could manage. To bad I have no guts.
I don't want to drag this topic out to death but I must bring up Glory once more. I think it was more acceptable for Adam to sing it at Joe's Pub, which is a venue where alot of Broadway artists perform their own stuff and showtunes. The Knitting Factory is well .. well..its not showtunes. It was appropriate to not do any of them. Stay strong adam!
The mascara - oy.

Don't mean to be rude guys but can we keep these private jokes on our 'love thread'? I just feel it will put other people off reading and contributing about/to the gig. And that would be a shame.
Thanks.

Anyway, Adam! Anyone else who went and wants to share their thoughts?
Actually, I was re-reading girlfriend's post and I would have loved him to do Ordinary Boy or Precious Little Meltdown, they would have been perfect yesterday.

I don't think this was mentioned, but I also don't feeling like re-reading this thread so if i repeat something I apologize.
When he was introducing Beautiful Song he talked about how he wrote it for his "babies" and said that to many babies died this week and the song goes out to them. It was the sweetest/saddest thing.

Hmmm it is ok for Broadway World video crew to shoot Adam at Knitting Factory (read OTB Love Thread), but not necessary for him sing theatre fan favorite signature song Glory? Fans not lucky enough to attend Kean or Joe's Pub concerts of course are disappointed. If Adam is going to stand on the merits of his rock music alone, then what is Broadway video crew doing there? Do not get me wrong, I am fan of Model Prisoner and Civilian but he also is big theatre star...
I respectfully disagree with his decision to not sing Glory but totally understand why he chose not to.

Adam not singing Glory is the same as Adam not singing the other 11 songs on Model Prisoner, not singing Someone Saved My Life Tonight, not singing Pinball Wizard, not singing the songs from School of Rock, not singing the songs he used to play with Mute. He wasn't making a point by not singing it, just like he wasn't going to make a point by singing it. It just wasn't in the setlist.
It's hard when Broadway people gig out because you're always going to find people who want them to sing Broadway. They sing Broadway for a living, this is what they do for fun and yeah, a little extra cash and exposure. I love to go to Matt Caplan gigs, but never once has anyone asked him to sing Halloween or La Vie Boheme. It's just a different setting and a different atmosphere and that should be expected and accepted. If Adam wants to sing Glory, he'll sing it. Just like if he wants to sing Liken a Razor at his next gig, he'll sing that.

couldn't of said it better myself agreengem. I posted before that i was kind of pissed about him not seeing glory, but I understand why he didn't do it. I mean, I wanted him to sing glory because it's a great song and he does a great job singing it. It had nothing to do with omg he's roger and omg he's singing from rent and omg i'm 13 and am a crazy obsessed fan (which, btw i'm not
) It just would've been cool.

This is how I view it...
Although I do love when Adam sings Glory and no one else could come close to how he does it, this wasn't the place for it. Yes, Broadway.com was taping it. I should know the guy stood infront of me for a good amount of time. Can't this been see as broadway.com supporting one of the businesses peformers? Getting the person exposure for his own music? Thinking about it now, it is smart of Adam to not sing it with the camera crew there, because if he did that is what they would probably show. Why promote Rent (a show he is no longer working in) when you can promote your own music?
"...but not necessary for him sing theatre fan favorite signature song Glory?"
I think that is the main point people are trying to make. He is more than Glory. He should be able to stand on his own without having to sing it. This was a chance for him to show off his own music.

Posted: 12/30/04 at 8:54pmMaybe I'm spoiled in having heard his Glory live three times now. But you have to recognize the number of years that Adam simply flat-out refused to sing the song, with the exception of the OBC reunion. You have to be aware of the fact that he did it those few times probably because it felt like the right thing to do, for himself and for his fans. It's extremely obvious that while he knows that he owes his success to musical theatre, he wants to have a persona that separate from that. I know people are going to turn that and say he's being arrogant, and that he's not thankful, but there are lots of Broadway people who do the same - they're successful in both media. He's first and foremost a musician, and he's always going to be. He's done Glory a lot recently, and honestly, most of the people in that room have probably been to one of those shows. As for the Broadway video crew - because of his roots, he's still going to get theatre coverage even when he's not doing theatre-related stuff. His Model Prisoner promo gigs got coverage, no? And I don't think he sang a single showtune at that stuff. To each his own, I suppose, but I don't think he was doing anything backhanded by not singing Glory. He obviously just wasn't into that last night. Give the guy a break.

Here's my kind of late 2 cents worth, with more details for Emcee - first a couple of negative things. I did feel that Adam wasn't in quite as good voice as at the first Joe's Pub show, where I thought his singing was really terrific. Overall this time he sang really well, but he had trouble with some of the high notes. (When I first heard Civilian I thought about how difficult it was vocally and whether that might become a challenge for live performances.) Also I liked the sound system at Joe's better. The KF one seemed to muddy things up a bit.
And on a purely personal note, I should have worn different shoes to a show where I would be standing for two hours.
On to the rest. I loved the way they started the show, with the band coming on and immediately going into the intro for 10,000 Miles, with Adam bounding on to start singing. He really sang the hell out of that song, It was a good idea to have a detachable mike that he could move around more with. He did a lot more moving around in general, even while playing guitar. I've seen all the comments about Adam's dancing, but I thought everything he did looked great. He was much looser in general than at the Joe's Pub show.
Toward the end when he was spending some time tuning his guitar and Glen started playing, Adam's responses were really funny. First he suggested to Glen that he "entertain the people while I tune." The crowd starting whooping it up to the great riff Glen was doing, and Adam said "not *too* much." Then he went into a Spinal Tap British accent and started talking about "Derek Smalls, he wrote this himself." (Bodes well for the Pink Floyd musical.) He also did a sort of Mr. Bill voice for the "international sign for 'help me'." It was all really funny stuff.
I agree that this was not the venue in which to do theater music, and also hope he does more Model Prisoner in the future.
