I just got back from seeing the show. as much as i wanted to agree w/ the sun times, i'm afraid the trib is right on. want the good news? it is visually beautiful, well designed, great sets. some hummable ditties; i heard people singing on the way out. great talented across the board cast. bad news. they're not given much to do. i still found myself mesmerized by bebe's stage presence, and she wasn't once allowed to shine. the problem, my feeling, its written so horribly. not sardonic at all like charles addams characters. none of the lines garner much of a laugh. example grandma says she has to quit smoking so much weed, and says it again in another way a few minutes later. haha, how scandelous. second act a mess and goes absolutely nowhere for an hour. one little song after the other with no development. i feel fortunate to see a new , brand new, show in its gestation, hope it evolves. i would like the best for all involved.
This I think its the most spot on review I've read. This is the only one I completely agree with it...I thought the Sun Times sung its praises far too much and the Trib was a tad too harsh, but Variety is about in the middle as I think it should be. Variety review

This is how I feel, too. Despite the disappointment I'm glad I saw it. I may see it again before it leaves if I can get a student discounted ticket, or something.
