Additional Hairspray Tour Date (weird?)

HAIRSPRAY's First National Tour was originally slated to complete its run at the Keller Auditorium in Portland Oregon on 6/25/06.

Recently, an additional tour date has been listed. The ACTUAL final stop for the tour is scheduled for a MONTH later at the Harra's Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. This event on its own isn't too strange, but the website lists the show's length for the NJ engagement as 90 MINUTES WITH NO INTERMISSION. The other tour performances have been 2:40 with a 15 minute intermission.

The final performances are presumably being performed in the same fashion as the recent Las Vegas mounting of the show.

Is this odd?

It sounds odd. Maybe the LV cast is moving to AC?

I thought about that, but then who's doing the LV performances?
Also, it was listed on the Hairspray tour website (not the Las Vegas site)

The date in Atlantic City is a "tryout" of sorts for the new non-equity production that is going out on the road this fall. It is the first stop on their tour. Although there has been speculation of the Las Vegas production closing, there has been no official word just yet!

really? because the tour is scheduled to play Providence RI in MAY 4-6 2007....is this not the same tour or something? there are 5 performances in May...and I plan on being at ALL 5....

showbiz, that will be the non-Equity production. It will not be the same tour.

Same thing with the Atlantic City stop.

so...they're gonna buy all the sets from the current touring production? I'm a little fuzzy on this equity non-equity stuff (I understand about the membership..and all)...could someone enlighten me?

I really hope the Las Vegas production doesn't close. I really NEED to see it and I can't make it up there until December

I haven't heard anything (not that I would) that suggests that the Vegas production is going to close anytime soon. Paul Vogt and Eddie Mecca(sp?) are both very popular in their own rights and will probably equate to good (not as good as Harvey) ticket sales when they step into their respective roles.

I got an email about the Atlantic City date too....so it definitely is the new non eq cast? I was tempted to go if the equity cast was going to be there since I've heard so many wonderful things about the cast.
Technically though..its actually easier for me to go to NYC and see the show there, than it is to drive an hour and a half to AC to see the show there..
