I also saw the first preview last night. First off, I was so excited that John Waters was sitting about 6 feet next me! Secondly, I enjoyed the show, not as good as Hairspray (because hHairspray has much more memorable songs!) The show will get mixed reviews. I thought the direction of the show was great! I sat front row Center (BB) March 4. I could see most everything fine, i could see bottom of knees and up (maybe they had cool shoes on?...). The stage is built to extend out over orchestra (orchestra onstage). The sight lines shouldn't be a problem for this show because there are no set pieces that come very far past the proscenium. I knew some of the songs going in and very brief knowledge about the show, and I loved it, and it was worth it just for Patti. yay for RI College grads on Broadw...

Hello! I just wanted to throw my two cents here, as I am IN this production. Going into this show, I didn't know anything about it. I do beleive our version is the American version (because the London version's rights are not available in the US). We have some awesome awesome rock voices to pull off this show! Especially for a show that is rarely produced, I would say our cast presents the material that was given to us very well, and we're having fun! For 12.50 that's not a bad price!

Just as long as they transfer what they had in Germany, and switched to the English language...it would be amazing! (or maybe even for some "concept" do the show in French...lol)

I agree. I wouldn't want to see a literal translation from screen to stage. I just feel the stage wasn't able to capture what the movie did. Lion King, Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast captured what it needed to, while still being completely original. I wouldn't even know who to send this letter to, and really the damage is done by now with the show opening in a week.

I thought the same thing when I saw the show, I even think the music there was VERY similiar to Be Our Guest. I did not mention before that I thought the performers were excellent (minus Norm's very fake voice, but I didn't mention this great great singing voice for the character!) Sherie was rocked, Sierra nailed Ariel's character. Titus was great as Sebastian (I think he could've been a little more sarcastic, but loved his Under the Sea number!)

I too saw The Little Mermaid on 12/29 (2pm) I have to say I was really disappointed. The main problems were with the costumes. The mermaids did not look like mermaids. I tried so hard to not hate them, but by the end I wanted to personally rip all the tails off. I liked the idea of use of heelys. I personally think the costumes should've been done, if anything like they do it in their Disney on Ice productions with the fins coming out of the bottom sides of the designed pants. saw it in Providence on Saturday. Great show. (I still dont care too much for the music...even after seeing it a second time) As usual the tour set is scaled back, but only a tad compared to New York. Doesn't affect show though. (the only thing I missed was the Oklahoma cactus and sun that folded down from the resteraunt scene) Tom Hewitt is fantastic! DB Bonds is an okay Freddie he was a little too cartoony, (I miss Norb...) but the two work very well together. The women are both Fantastic. ...

So...as I watched the video, I realized that when I saw the show this past Wednesday...I missed a few things that were pointed out in the video...Mary Poppins sliding up the bannister and the Step-in-time guy dancing on the floor that isn't there. Does the bannister happen? I figured I would've noticed it...(however I also missed Mary Poppin's entrance because I was looking at the ripped up pieces of paper that were flying about the theatre)...

according to the site http://www.hairspraymovie.com/blog/index.php Play Along Toys will be introducing a line of HAIRSPRAY movie dolls in co-release with the film. Edna, Tracy, Amber, Penny, and Link are all in the works. I'm all for the dolls but, my only question is, one of the show's/movie's main theme is about racism... So, why isn't there a Seaweed or a Motormouth Maybelle doll?

On the subject of CATS.. Whilst searching for maybe a video of Angie Smith who's voice gave me millions of chills I found one fans obsessed with CATS video. I think the first sign of obsession is when referring to a giant CATS poster comments "poster on the wall...where they great me, everytime I come in the room" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp9Q1XfIbZY love it seriously, think of the cash this woman must've had to buy all these original costumes!!!

I can definitely identify with a tour losing their once full broadway potential. The (Official Disney) Beauty and the Beast tour does not compare to the show that is currently (not for much longer) running on Broadway. I can agree with CATS was something to be experienced in NYC, and I am guessing maybe the fact that there was no plot, and it was the experience of being IN the theatre, was something revolutionary for its time.

I caught the recent tour of Cats here in Rhode Island. I just don't get why so many people like this show and why it's gone on for so long!?!??!? I've seen it before when I was younger and I dont remember hating it so much. Every number is dragged out. The music is nothing special. Plot is...oh wait there isn't one. And just the character of Cassandra, I hated her poses, don't know why it drove me insane! (it wasn't the performer, thats the way the role is always played.) I had no problem wit...

I think Nightmare Before Christmas would be a good seasonal thing to do, like The Grinch. It could start around Halloween, and finish up after Christmas.
