Hi. My parents are coming up to visit the first week of April, we have tickets to Great Comet, and want to add another show. They have a pretty robust tour schedule in their hometown, so when they come to NYC they like to see things that are unique, buzzworthy, maybe have a star, probably wouldn't tour (or wouldn't be the same on tour), etc. We saw Dear Evan Hansen at Second Stage last year (and loved it), but they don't want to see it again. Hello Dolly would be ideal, but it doesn't look like an option without paying an arm and a leg for resale tickets.

So what show should we see? My instinct would be to wait until March when things start opening to get a better feel of buzz, but I also like the idea of getting tickets now so we can try to jump on the best possible (non-premium) seats.

I'm not sure they'd be into Anastasia or Charlie because they'll consider them "kids shows"... based on a list of what's opening I'm thinking our options are Amelie, Bandstand, Bronx Tale, Groundhog Day, Come From Away, Miss Saigon, Sunset Boulevard, or War Paint. We don't normally do plays, but The Play That Goes Wrong sounds hilarious. Anything else I'm missing?

Suggestions? ...and your reasoning? Thanks!!

Based on their interests, Sunset or War Paint seem like the obvious choices.  Neither will probably tour with the same stars.

I would suggest Sunday in the Park with George  bc JAKE GYLLENHAAL and War Paint because Patti Lupone!

only because I'm really looking forward to seeing them too!

I don't know enough about Sunset to suggest it or to want to see it myself.

Come from away is really unique and interesting - everyone who's seem it has been raving. I'd snap up tickets to that

I haven't seen it but COME FROM AWAY sounds very unique and out of town word of mouth has been great.

Also: GROUNDHOG DAY sounds unique also.

Thanks for the advice, everyone - we ended up getting tickets to War Paint. I think they'll really like that one. (Though now I'm very personally intrigued by Come From Away and will definitely be getting a ticket for myself!)
