The actor does a good job at bouncing through all the different parts.

But in the end, it’s kind of a meh. As Frank says: “No real muscle.”

DEATH OF A SALESMAN 2026 Previews

It was a workmanly production.  Not much spark (except for Metcalf, but her spark belonged in another play).

Lane is fine, I guess, for Willy, but I like a Willy who we believe was once a "force" and who has now deflated.  Lane is more like a pushy, reedy, bore who a company would be glad to let go.

Metcalf is playing Mother Courage.  All strong, towering effectiveness.  But why does she put up with Willy who is constantly beratin

Hiddleston & Atwater Much Ado @ the Winter Garden

Just FYI:

The Winter Garden was the venue for the glorious 1972-73 MUCH ADO starring Sam Waterston and Kathleen Widdoes.

Daniel Fish: KRAMER/FAUCI starring Will Brill & Thomas Jay Ryan

Kad said: "I thought the foam created an incredible stage image- Thomas Jay Ryan as Kramer, stewing in a chair as this ever-growing mountain of foam spreads over the stage and threatens to envelope him. While its meaning is not immediately clear- is it the cases and deaths, is it the "numbers game" discussed at several points, is it a lone voice trying to stop a deluge- there's enough in the transcript that allows you to find some meaning and give it power."

The Dinosaurs at PH

Saw it tonight.  It was pleasant. It’s basically a recovery session with memory jumps, I don’t want to spoil too much or explain too much. The six actresses were all fine and it’s always a pleasure to see Kathleen Chalfant and Elizabeth Marvel.

HIGH SPIRITS at Encores!

I have to agree with him.

A sub-par-casting bore.  The music is trance-inducing and I kept hoping for the ghosts of Charles Kimbrough, Maggie Smith, Angela Lansbury and, well, Tammy Grimes to show up,  Snnnnnnnn.  That Mary woman barely moves a muscle in her conducting, adding an additional level of snooze to the proceedings.   Lenk offers no charisma, Soo talks way too fast, the singing Pasquale sounds eerily like Victor Garber and Andrea Martin is just c

I was wondering the same thing

does anyone know when Jasmine is returning?

Understudies in today for Olive and Logainne

I felt that Emily N. Rudolph nailed tentative, booksmart Olive (can't image Jasmine was better in the role - probably more powerhouse which I don't think would work as well).

Not understudy, but Justin Cooley was phenomenal.  A bit more animated than Jesse Ferguson but it worked.

A satisfying production.  Boy do I miss Wi

Sweet Act 1.  Falls apart in Act 2.  Too much navel gazing.

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES Preview
 Nov 11 2025, 10:29:32 PM

I mean, what’s the point of this musical?  The evils of consumer culture?  A musical take on a documentary?  A cautionary tale of the fatality of fentanyl?  How to wring Broadway gold out of snake piss?  I don’t get it.

and it’s so DRY!  Minimal emotion or even a heart beat. And if I hear one more “****” to convey Gen z angst I’m gonna plotz. A thoroughly nasty night in the theatre.

Niche/offbeat but high quality Sondheim performances - what are your fav?

George Chakiris and Jane Russell in first national tour of COMPANY.

George Reinholt and Christina Pickles (and Jerry Zaks! and Nikki Flaks!) in Cecilwood Summer Theatre's COMPANY

Sierra Boggess' delectable Charlotte in Barrington's NIGHT MUSIC.

Diane J. Findlay's knockout Stella Deems in Barrington's FOLLIES.  (Why didn't she do Hattie?)

Saturday Church at NYTW
 Aug 29 2025, 11:59:30 PM

Saw this tonight.  SOOOO tired.  That plot - ripped out of every Gay Boy Coming Out handbook.

SPOILERS BUT WHO CARES

Gay boy is uncomfortable with his sexuality and how his family and church will react if he reveals himself.

Cute meeting of another boy on the subway who comes on to him hugely (out of nowhere - huh?).

Advise from a drag queen Jesus (slim excuse for sass and songs)

Meets a Saturday Church organiz

I don’t know why they didn’t push for Marisha at the beginning. She’s phenomenal. She’s no Sally Bowles but she’s just a powerhouse amazing performer. In fact, I’m going back to see her again.

And FYI, I actually liked Billy Porter in the role. He minimizes that weird choreography and relates a lot more to the audience. His cabaret training shows and he’s very likable and fun. His voice may be a little weary, b
