How does the Hot Tix work?
I know that you can buy them in advance or the day of the performance. Is there an advantage to buying them the day of? Will I get better seats if I buy them the day they go on sale?
Also, where are the seats usually located?
I was thinking about buying them for The Colour Purple.

You have a much better advantage buying them in advance. If you buy the day of, they only offer seats in the balcony. They basically sell extreme side orchestra first, then mezz and balcony boxes, and then seats in the balcony (in that order...so call early)
Although I heard they may be selling them the day of only for this production, much like they did with Jersey Boys where you'd have to line up early in the morning to wait for tickets at the box office. Hope this helps!

Thanks!
How bad are the extreme sides?

I've sat in the extreme sides for many a show there and they are fantastic. The stage is very wide and you only miss the tiniest bit on one side but nothing that will affect your viewing of the show. Definitely worth the $20.
Last I checked they were only going to be selling the Hottix for Color Purple starting Dec 11th. They may sell it earlier, they may decide to sell them in person only, or they may decide to not sell them at all depending on what the producers tell them. The box office has already been told to NOT give free standby tickets on press night (like they usually do for all shows) and encouraged me to keep calling back to get updates on Hottix.

If you find anything out can you please tell us?
Sure!
Tentative sale date is still Dec.11th as of today. (I've been checking cause I was thinking of going sometime for my birthday. The 11th cuts it close as my bday is on the 14th!)
So this is what I found out this morning...
They are only selling HOTTIX on Tuesdays for that week's performances only. Sounded like they are side seats partial view only but still worth the price :)
I got mine for this weekend! Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info, Popular! Did you get your tickets over the phone? Do they just deal them out, or were you given a choice for seats?
I'm glad you got yours for this weekend. Hope you have a good birthday!
Got them over the phone. No choice for seats (but that's how HOT TIX always works) - and you don't find out where they put you until you get there. In this case they said it's on the side (partial view).
...and thanks for the early bday wish, I will!

So they are only selling Hot Tix for Tuesdays?

Not FOR Tuesday, only ON Tuesday.
Each Tuesday they'll sell HotTix only for that week.

So if I want to buy tickets for a performance in two weeks - I should call on the Tuesday in two weeks?
That's how they explained it to me. You should call to double check but I think that's how it works. Call the Tuesday before the date you want to go.
