Aida (8/27) Caution long post

Sorry that it has taken so long to post this but I have been in Maine looking at colleges. I also appologize for spelling mistakes but niether Word nor Word Perfect are working on my computer. Here Goes-

Going back to the Palace Theater was amazing. I hadn't been in the building for over 3 years and yet when I walked in I remembered my first Aida performance.
-Every Story-Amazing, Brilliant! I was really impressed by the girl playing Amneris' voice. Seeing Adam walk on stage I could immediately tell that he was a better actor.
-Fortune Favors the Brave- Adam was on! what more can I say. I had forgotten how much I liked the Choreography of this show.
*Sidenote*-The soldier that walks in right after the song missed his cue and Adam and the ensemble were just waiting on stage looking a little foolish. When the guy realized he'd missed his line he ran onstage and fumbled the line (Ah the beauty of live theater)
-Past is another Land-Wow! I heard so much about how bad Deborah Cox was but she was great! (not as great as Heather) Her acting was top of the line too, and she delivered every line (whether comical, or serious) perfectly
-Another Pyramyd-Mickey Dolenz was not great, not horrible but not great. When he talked he sounded way to much like a...there is nothing to describe what he sounded like. And his singing, well, it was not John Hickok.
-How I know You- Although the guy playing Mereb wasn't great he was good.
-My Strongest Suit-I have said it once, and I will say it again, this girl can sing (and act, flawlessly)
-Enchantment Passing Through-Beautafully done.(Adam's voice did crack when he got to the last high "Will")
-My Strongest Suit (Reprise)-I forgot how hillarious this scene is.
-Dance of the Robe-I love this song and the ensemble did great
-Not Me-These three voices matched perfectly.
-Elaborate Lives-Deborah and Adam sing great together. Wonderful.
-Gods Love Nubia-What a way to end an act.
-Step too far-GREAT. This song brings the audience right back.
-Easy as Life-It was during this song that I realized why I liked her singing so much, she never had to physically change from a low to high range it hjust all flowed.
-Like Father Like Son-Adam was great!!! Mickey was Horrible!!!
-Radames' Letter-Adam certainly has become a better actor. While singing this song he was showing so much emotion.
-How I Know You (Reprise)-He wasn't great, but it got the point accross.
-Written in the Stars-I have always loved this song, and they did amazing.
-I know the Truth- When she walked out every Aida 'virgin' gasped, while those of us who had seen it before gave a little smirk. I love this song and handled it great.
-Enchantment Passing Through (Reprise)-Such a beautiful moment in the show.
-Elaborrate Lives (Reprise)-This scene was so amazing, they both did amazing
-Every Story (Reprise)-As this show ended a tear was coming out of my eye it was great.

All in all the show was Wonderful as was the entire cast.
The highlight of the show (of course) was Adam, he was perfect.

Amneris is Lisa Brescia!!!! She is my biggest role model ever. And you're right, her voice is amazing and he acting is awesome!!!!! IM jacobtsf.... gabbi416.... we'll discuss!!!

Nice run down of the show. But where did you here that Deborah didn't do a good job. I'm surprise that your surprise of her performance.

You know, I still gasp each time Amneris walks out before "I Know The Truth". I guess because I get so into it each time I see it or because I try to look at it with 'virgin' eyes so I can enjoy it as much as I the did 1st time.

Also, I like Adam, but I don't know if I would call him perfect. The couple of times I've seen him, he looked a little out of place. Maybe he will change me on Sunday.

Friends of mine who had seen the show with Deborah said it was bad, but I was glad they were wrong.

Cabaret really did wonders for Adam acting wise, he is a changed man.

Great review! One question though. You didnt mention the "Elaborate Lives Reprise" that is one of the most emotional moments in the show. Just wondering how that was.

Everytime i see the show with Deborah i enjoy her more and more. It really seems like she is growing so much in the role, which makes me even more upset that it has to close. For anyone who doubted her as a performer it is probably because of the whole "stunt casting" thing. First with Toni, then Michelle. When you hear it you just groan and say "not another one" I will say this for her though - she is in a different league from the other "stunt casted" stars. She has her problems though. But i always find problems with people! Like the pointing thing. She likes to point alot. But if that is my only complaint then great!!!

Again, so glad you enjoyed yourself.

Type A Tiff - Since you asked about whether Adam has been hitting "will forget" at the end of ENCHANTMENT PASSING THROUGH, I figured I'd respond. I saw the show last Thursday and then again tonight (9/1) and he cracked both times... well maybe not cracked, screeched... don't know how to describe it.... on the "will" and then was fine for "forget"... hehe... sorry if that doesn't make any sense.

I also was pleased with Deborah, although I think the crying was overdone in parts, but she was good.

Adam is doing great (other than the "will forget"). He is making some different choices and doing some things different then his first run in the show. He definitely has developed as an actor. And he just looks so cute... hehe...

I don't really mind the guy playing Mereb... I don't love him... I don't hate him.... I liked his acting and his dancing but wasn't too sure about his voice.

Lisa Brescia is awesome. Such a good Amneris. She gets the comedy parts perfect and then can really show you the emotion in other scenes. I have heard a lot more gasps when she comes out from behind the wall before "I know the truth". I think it might be because the audience is really connecting with her and feeling for the character besides just laughing at her.

And don't even get me started on Mickey Dolenz....

I have seen this show more times than I would care to mention but hadn't seen it in over a year... I was pleasantly surprised and will be there as well on Sunday to say farewell...

TMZ, what seats do you have on Sunday? I'm so jealous of all of you who get to go!

I've only seen Adam in the show during his first run - what kind of things are he doing differently as an actor this time round? How's his chemistry w/ Deb?

Isn't Lisa great? In person, I've only seen her and Taylor Dayne as Amneris, and I didn't like Taylor at all. Lisa really nails the comedic bits and she's hot a helluva voice!

I generally don't like the way that Mereb's character is written. It has the potential to be such a good role, and he's important to the plot, but I think the dialogue and his songs are written so poorly that I sort of don't look forward to his scenes. I'd argue the same thing with Aida's father too...lots of potential, but not enough "meat".
