at the request on MEF- i relistened to MyLifeWithAlbertine and now LOVE IT! i think it is so beautiful. This also happened with Assassins, Pacific Overtures (both are my two fav sondheim shows), King and I, and Porgy and Bess
on another note, i have been listening to Side Show for two months now and find it too be way overhyped- i bought it on recomendation (sp?) from people who rave about it here on the board and think that the lyrics are really what kills the show for me. I love the music and talent though.
which albums grew on you, and which albums did you try to like but couldn't?

Sweet Smell of Success has been growing on me lately.
Has anyone heard Bed and Sofa? I've tried and tried but I still find it to be a piece of crap.

Posted: 2/17/05 at 1:53pmLe Miserables, definetly. It always takes me a while to warm up to a new show's music, but I really couldn't appreciate Le Miz until at least the third or fourth listen.

Posted: 2/17/05 at 2:03pmIt took a long time for me to actually get into "The Last Five Years". Now I love it.

Posted: 2/17/05 at 3:07pmHonestly, Taboo took a while to grow on me. Most Sondheim, as well, with the exception of Assassins, which I loved the first time I put it on. Usually, if I see a show, the music grows on me faster.
#7re: Albums that grow on you...
Posted: 2/17/05 at 3:07pmyay Sondheim takes a while (except for Woods and Todd)

Well, while we're confessing, can I tell everyone that I haven't heard a note of A Chorus Line or Sweeny Todd? (I'm a poor teenager, but I swear those are on my to-buy list)
CQT, do check those out. You won't be disappointed.

Posted: 2/17/05 at 3:14pmCQT, you get your CDs and I'll get mine and then we can rejoin the cool kids. Until then, how are you feeling about life as a failure? Failuredom isn't too bad of a place, they give you free drinks with little umbrellas in them if you're good.

Posted: 2/17/05 at 3:54pmI'm glad to hear that L5Y grows on you because I just bought the cd after many recomendations and was not thrilled with what I heard. I hope it grows on me because otherwise I just wasted $17. And I must also confess that I have never heard any of Sweeney Todd either (except what's on B'Way the Am. Mus.). I've heard it's amazing but have never gotten around to buying it. I have heard the other must-hears though.

just about anything really takes a little while to grow on me. Particular songs stick out but in general that is the case. Shows that I immediately loved (ironically) are Wildhorn's shows. Jekyll and Hyde was an immediate "i love it!" as was Scarlet Pmimpernel after Madame Guillotine (wow!)
Weird isn't it.
#22re: Albums that grow on you...
Posted: 2/17/05 at 4:37pmL5Y also took me a while to like. I love it now though! Also i can't get myself to like aida except for the god's love nubia. I don't know what it is but i just can't listen to it.

Posted: 2/17/05 at 6:17pmCQT, i recently got SIDE SHOW also. have only listened to it once and wasn't that impressed. it didn't grow on you, but maybe it will grow on me?
