The Last 5 Years took awhile to grow on me too. I hate to say this, but so did Phantom, Into the Woods, and Avenue Q.
As far as trying to like something, Follies hasn't had much of an impression of me and neither has Finian's Rainbow - I do seem to be listening to the latter more, though.

High Society
Urinetown (full appreciation came when I saw the show)
Falsettoland
Passion (OBC - I took immediately to the London album)
Sunday in the Park With George
Caroline or Change (repeated listens are needed to fully understand)
Candide (OBC - wasn't really prepared for it the first time out)
Interestingly enough took an immediate like for:
Parade
Assassins
The Wild Party (LaChiusa)
Elegies
Though nothing beats going back to a cast album that you disregarded for some reason or another and finding worth on a random second or third (etc) listen.

Listening to an OBCR before i see a show usually will take a while to grow on me... Rent, at first, had an awesome rock sound to it, but i just couldn't get into some of the lyrics and tune-ups... now, they're like the best part and the album all together became amazing to me not to mention seeing the show helped
and Jane Eyre took a while to appreciate and get used to

A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM. I sat down to listen to it, and not one song was memorable, except for "Comedy Tonight", but that's only because I knew the song beforehand.
But after I found out I was going to be IN the show, I listened more and now I really love each and every song in the score.
I think it's because it is Sondheim... He is a genius, but nothing is catchy or memorable unless you listen to it 4,000 times.

Posted: 2/18/05 at 8:27pmYeah some of the tune ups in RENT took a while for me to get into. The first time I heard them, I didn't dislike it but I would just skip over those and the voicemails etc. But then I really started listening to them and now I love em.

BroadwayBaby - it was an interesting experience. I picked it up on a whim and within a few measures of the opening number I knew it was going to be a musical to which I had to pay the utmost attention. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Few other brief comments on the topic:
It took me a while to warm up to "The Threepenny Opera." Couldn't really get into the score. Though the other Weill works I loved on first hearing - "Street Scene", "One Touch of Venus (I would really REALLY like that recording with Melissa Errico and Ron Raines, Mr. Yap!), "Lost in the Stars" and especially "Lady in the Dark."
I also had to warm up to "The Human Comedy" and "Kiss of the Spider Woman".

Do-Re-Mi (w/ Nathan Lane)
Scarlet Pimpernel
Steel Pier
As far as regular music goes, Ashlee Simpson's "Autobiography". At first, I was not exactly a fan. But, the more I listen to it (and the more people make fun of her), the more I find myself sticking by her.
