Posted: 2/20/05 at 3:26amI used to despise SITPWG, but now that I've listened to the album a few times, I'm completely in love with it.

Posted: 2/21/05 at 3:15amPASSION as a complete album took several listens for me to fully appreciate. Cd's make it easier to skip tracks or program just the favourite songs ("Loving You" is still my favourite from that score) but on long car trips I would play through the whole score and started appreciating its construction. Then when I saw the show, I really got what it ws doing. I felt so alone though: the man sitting next to me got up and left half way through and never returned.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

wicked - tooke me at least 8 months to start to like. i hate it again cuz the songs are abrasive and get stuck in your head too easily.

Marie Christine has taken me nearly five years to get into! Having not seen it in performance, it's not an easy show to like just from the CD. I had to sit down with CD liner notes and concentrate - it was worth it eventually.
Pasion was another slow burner because it's such a seamless score it really needs to be listened to (rather than just in the background) all in one go. It was one of my first Sondheim recordings, and I now know to give them all some time to sink in properly :)
I've not listened to Caroline or Change yet, but from what I've heard it's much the same, so I'm waiting until I have enough time to give it the attention it (allegedly) deserves.
Oddly I had no problem getting into Last Five Years or any JRB(although they all seem to improve with each listening)
