I know Alfie is departing the show tomorrow. I just wanted to know how was he in the production? Also if you have any stage door experiences I would like to hear them as well, You never see to many pictures or videos or even people giving reviews of him in the Broadway production.
What... kind of pictures or videos are you looking for?
I saw his first performance as Valjean on Broadway, and he's definitely more of a singer than an actor, but I had seen his Rodolfo (and his Valjean in the 25th), so I sort of knew what to expect. He does have a very warm presence on stage.

LizzieCurry, what I meant is that you see really no action photos of him during performaces or any commercials of him actually in the show all you really see is shots from the 25th anniversary. BTW if you are in for a treat when John Owen Jones begins performances on March 1st by far my favorite Valjean ever and ive seen ALOT!!!! I already bought my tix for Sept 4th the last show :)

I wouldn't know. He was out every time I saw the show.

That's true; I do find it funny that they use shots from the concert outside the Imperial.
I'll see JOJ eventually. If history is any indication, I'll have another 20 years to catch him as Valjean in an English-speaking country anyway.

"Trust me mailhandler777 the few times I tied seeing him in the show he was out as well, Everytime I would check telecharge before I would buy tickets and there was a huge list of dates that he was out. When I went to the box office to buy the last show there was a sign with all dates he was out. I told the box office you would need a smaller sign telling what shows he will be in lol. They laughed saying he misses much more than the announced absences and that it was very annoying cause people were asking for there money back.

"Since you seem to be in the know lol, did they announce if JOJ will have an alternate. Ramin and Alfie were terrible with attendance but JOJ is a work horse I wonder how they are going to handle this.
I'm not so much "in the know lol" as I am a fan with a long history. If they've announced an alternate, it's not on the site.

I seem to recall that when Alfie played Valjean in London he was also out a lot, due to voice, back or knee problems.
Was he missing for the same reasons on Broadway?

"Could never tell but hes missed a Ton on Broadway, he was terrible with attendance in the West End heard his voice couldn't handle the 8 show week, but who knows a lot of Valjeans have been doing 6 show schedules recently.
Most Valjeans throughout history have done a 7-show week, but this most recent revival was the first to make such a transparent point of it (I think). Dudu Fisher not withstanding, and I think Jeff Leyton in London and Robert Marien on Broadway.
Rather than start a new thread on this, was anyone at Alfie's final show yesterday. and could you please report what happened? I was curious if anyone said or did anything special for him.
Thanks all!
It was quite epic last night. I have a lot of little quibbles with the production itself (such as young Eponine pulling a Rachel Dolezal, but that's another story).
Alfie got a 2-minute standing ovation after "Bring Him Home" and you could see he was visibly moved by the ovation. At the end of the show, Hayden Tee (who is EXCELLENT as Javert - he had me trembling) gave him and Wallace Smith (who also was celebrating his last performance) the "parole slips" from the beginning of the show, with Alfie then tearing his up similar to his character (to another roaring ovation).
The stage door was an unequivocal madhouse, but most of the cast (save for Gavin Lee, Rachel Izen, and Wallace Smith) came out and were all extremely nice. Alfie was gracious to his fans, signing everything and taking pictures with everyone for a good long time (it took him a good half hour to reach me and I was toward the front-middle of the line).
I only bought the tickets because my mother absolutely loves him and thought it would make a great Christmas gift. I was never a fan of him until last night.
Thank you quizking. So no one spoke? It seems like there would be no time to speak since they have the 3 hour cutoff, but I was curious if they got anything in.

No curtain call speeches were made.
Thank you quirking. Whoop couldn't make his final show, I'll be there closing and wonder if they'll say anything. I know it's hard with the 3 hour cap though.
I was at the 2003 closing performance and they did a whole big speech thing with Cameron Mackintosh, Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schonberg, John Caird and Trevor Nunn.
Of course, that was after a much longer run and it was an invited audience.
I already have my tickets for this closing and I'm hoping they'll do something special.

They didn't do anything when the other revival closed back in 2008 so I doubt they'll do anything for this one.
I'm with you Eliza, but I highly doubt they will do anything still due to the 3 hour cutoff, and as mailhandler said nothing was done in 2008. Even if they do nothing, it will still be special to just be there and feel the energy from the audience and performers on stage. It's always so sad when this show leaves Broadway for me. To me, this is one of those shows that should always be there. If the tour starts up again, at least we will have that and I can follow it around the country again.
