"He had it in his contract that he will only do 6 shows a week, when he performed it in London. But don't most Jean Val Jeans only do 6 shows anyway? "

No. Seven. (And it's one word: Valjean.)

I actually appreciate it when telecharge posts if the lead will be out or when actors tweet when they will be off. Tickets are expensive and if you are hoping to see a lead, barring sickness it's nice to know in advance. I have no problem with performance schedules public. Seems more upfront and less sneaky from the production

If an actor is able to negotiate that type of deal into their contract than good for them. If they want to take less money for it than that is there decision and good for the understudy who doesn't have to face a disappointed crowd and gets a great oppurtunity to show their talents

I believe that having an alternate for Valjean is a little different since, from what I've gathered it's the actors choice as to whether or not they want it or not.

But, I was just thinking about the role of Christine in Phantom. There's an alternate in place and has been there since what feels like the dawn of time. There have been many Broadway Christine leads who've said that they felt that they could do the role, all eight shows no issues at all. But, since the alternate was put in place from the get go, that wasn't going to happen. So, I'm wondering, since the lead Christine doesn't have a say in the matter regarding the alternate going on, do they pay her all eight shows? I mean, at this point it's not as if is the actresses choice by any means.
