i went to the matinee yesterday. some empty seats.

i feel like they don't get a fair chance in such a big theater but o well i guess.

I agree, I think it's one of the best casts put together. They all have an amazing voice. Best cast and voices in my book

I was considering taking my mom to see that for Christmas, do you think it will pull through? My mom loves juke box musicals and Elvis (She saw them on last years Thanksgiving Parade and wanted to see it real bad, but I protested haha) and I'm sure the cast is amazing so I wouldnt mind seeing it now. Does the music fit in this show? Thats what I always seem to find a problem with musicals based off already written songs.

Does the music fit in this show?

Pretty well, I think. Of the "real" jukebox shows (I refuse to include Lennon in there), it's the only one I really liked. It's very, very clever.

This is sad. Such a good show like this deserves so much more success - please keep seeing it, everyone!

Maybe there's a reason for that, like possibly the quality of the show?

superstarjpp, the quality of the show is amazing. Have you ever seen it? The sets are great, the songs and orchestrations are catchy, and there is not a weak link in the cast. The only thing that is a little weak is the book.

That means the *production* is good - not the material. It's a fun show, but I wouldn't call it "amazing" material.

It's just a fun show of the genre of jukebox musicals. IMHO I think it is a lot better than Mamma Mia which will probably run till kingdom come.

Friday night I sat in the orchestra, and it appeared to be full; although I don't know what it looked like upstairs. It was a very different looking crowd from the last times I have seen it,and I have seen it multiple times.

It's getting late in the summer; hopefully, it's just a matter of people going back to school early or the end of the tourist season because of families going home to get ready for school.

This show is also one of my favorites; and as a bonus, the cast is usually out and very responsive. Less than half of the cast came out, and most didn't seem to have that positive attitude they usually do, except for Jenn Gambatese who is just always a doll. Cheyenne actually came out early, rather than last, and wasn't his usually smiling self. He was cordial, but not as he usually responds. It could have just been personal stuff,I guess; because the audience was very responsive at the show. Mostly, the cast all just seemed tired afterwards. It happens...

Hopefully, word of mouth will carry it through for quite awhile or maybe they'll move it to a smaller theatre (without sacrificing the great staging and sets).

Is ASU even close to making back it's investment?

If ASU does close, it has no one to blame but the producers. Two big problems:

1..One of the crappiest logos around. Look's like a Grease wanna-be. Very cluttered and not appealing at all. WHen I first say it in Times Square last October, I thought it looked like crap. And still does. Who would think this was a musical?

2..It's a musical featuring the music of Elvis. So..hey, here's a thought...why not use that to market? But then we have others crying "It's not an Elvis musical!!". Guess what...those millions of Elvis fans (and how many foreign Elvis fans are there?) have kept the Elvis empire in the BILLIONS year after year. Don't you think they would support an Elvis musical? Sure would. Why not put..IN BIG LETTERS "Featuring the music of Elivs". But the ASU produers wanna keeps this as low key as possible. And as a result, they're suffering and the show will close and close soon.

I think this show has been marketed terribly! There are so many more elvis fans out there than Abba fans, and I think ticket sales would reflect this if the show was publicized properly. I also kinda dislike the logo... I dunno I was given the impression last time I went by some of teh staff it's only going to last another few weeks.

i looooove ASU, and i think you have to just "let yourself go" :) give it a chance, and then realize that you loved it! most of the negative comments on here about the show are probably written by people who havent seen it! HAVE YOUR OWN OPINION and dont go against something because so and so said it was "bad" it really is the most entertaining show ive ever seen

im supposed to see it again soon, hopefully ASU makes it

i saw aida and not long after it closed before i could see it again re: All Shook Up EMPTY tonight i dont want the same thing to happen to ASU (although i have seen it twice, it just isnt enough)

HANG ON ASU!!

Oh no, I really hope All shook up doesn't close. It was such a good show. I really loved the music, singing, dancing, acting, everything was great! Plus, the whole cast is so amazing. Not only are they great on stage but they are probably the nicest cast you will ever meet! I hope it doesn't close, it would make me really sad!

That happenended to me when I went to Dame edna:the royal tour, the show we were at was not as full as they had hoped so they closed the balcony, and put everyone in the orchestra.

I know this doe not really fit with All shook up but I thought I would throw it in anyway.

All Shookk Up did not post a closing notice yet though, but they probably will in the near future.

right?

In fairness to 'All Shook Up,' the Palace Theatre is humongous. It has over 1,700 seats, which is about 300 seats more than most musical houses. If it were in a smaller theater (for instance, 'Hairspray' and 'Spamalot' are in 1,400-seat houses), it would feel more intimate and feel more like a hit. If you're at the back of the orchestra at the Broadhurst, it's not that far away from the stage. But stand at the back of the Palace, and the stage seems miles away.

It's also a very competitive season for musicals. All four of the shows Tony-nominated for Best Musical are still running and doing well. How often does that happen? 'All Shook Up' got snubbed by the Tony nominators because it's a 'jukebox musical'; worse of all, by NOT being nominated for Best Musical, it didn't get a chance to perform at the Tonys.

Meantime, the cast (and the show's publicists) have been working overtime to get the show on TV and make personal appearances.

By the way, it's kinda remarkable that John Simon just caught up with 'All Shook Up' and gave it a rave. Too bad his review didn't come out months ago, but better late than never.
