"All Shook Up" on the Thanksgiving Parade

Posted: 11/25/04 at 2:51pmi can't believe the Elvis Presley Estate geve their blessings and allowed these people to "rape" and "bludgeon" the Elvis Presley catalogue. What a friggin' mess. I was laughing my ass off at the whole thing. No wonder Broadway is in such a sorry state. Someone needs to get Cheyenne some dancing lessons. NOT IMPRESSED.

I'm trying to see how someone would think the All Shook Up performance was good? Can someone give an in depth account of what was so good about it? Something other than, it was great! Why was it great?
On my end, I can say why I thought it was bad: The choreography was pedestrian, and poorly delivered by most of the cast especially Cheyenne. Cheyenne J. and Jennifer G. didn't seem to have any connection with the material or each other. The whole thing came off as a music video, and no one seemed to have ownership of their characters or the material...The Love Me Tender part and the Burning Love part really had nothing to do with each other. I would have liked to see that there was a plot (which there is), and I think the show presented itself too much like a revue.

"Mediocre is the word to use about the entire performance and both leads."
I would have to disagree strongly with you..Ms. Gambatese is not just some 'mediocre' performer.. she is an extremely talented gal. She has a lovely voice and she is extremely good at comedic time and she brings a delightful charm to her characters. While she is wonderful at performing to make people laugh she is equally as talented at making you really believe in whatever type of character she is portraying. She is what a performer should be well rounded and she brings a real flair to the stage. I can't speak for Jackson I have never seen him in anything before.
2nd I feel that for a show that has only been in rehearsals for 3 weeks as of today and doesn't open for MONTHS they did a wonderful job.. Good Vibrations opens like next month doesn't it? That performance reminded me of my high school talent shows...
Maybe they picked the 2 songs they did because they open and close the show.. I think that they plan on not reviling much in promos on the major plot of Ms. Gambatese's character ... to keep it as a delightfully funny surprise, but they should have shown a little more to plot line.
But I personally like the way the songs have been arranged. I also felt that the full background choreography was fun to watch and very well performed by the ensemble, I Also love the story and in having already seen the show I guess I know what is going on and everything made more sense to me.. I feel that Ms. Gambatese's voice fits her role very well, I didn't mind Blond Jackson, the wig needed a little work but the look is coming along. When it comes down to it I just enjoyed it, I am really looking forward to this show!

As for this excuse about lack of rehearsal that keeps coming up...
If they didn't have enough rehearsal, they shouldn't have gone on a nationally televised event.

Posted: 11/25/04 at 9:19pmthey did have enought rehersal for what they where doing it was mostly a great job, just as good as the other 3 shows, I'm just saying that I feel that the show is going take a lot of changes before it gets to brodway the next time they do that number I feel it is going to be kind of differnt.. But I still feel it was an enjoyable performance!

I'm not sure if I will enjoy this musical or not, but Cheyenne is a doll. Although he looks better with dark hair.

"Cheyenne was wearing a wig. (almost positive)"
almost positive? Are you visually impaired?

Posted: 11/29/04 at 8:34amPennyLou, perhaps this particular incarnation of the show has been in rehearsals for three weeks but hasn't Gambetese been with it for a long time now? Seems to me, she has no "they've only been rehearsing three weeks" excuse to fall back on. Again, we are not discussing how nice and kind and amazing the actor is, we're discussing a potential hundred dollar a ticket performance and quite frankly, that was no where near up to snuff.

My point of view has nothing to do with the fact that Ms. Gambatese happens to be a nice person. When I saw the show in Ct there were a few people who definitely needed work on finding there characters.. She wasn't one of them. I don't understand how you can judge someone's entire take on the role from half of 2 song... Her character has a several different level to it that aren't show cased at all in either of the songs.
The character starts the show kind of shy and looking for love and to be happy (love me tender), and ends the show realizing her inner strenth and happens to get the guy on the way (burning love).
Judging anyone full characterization on a performer of one song is ridicules and un called for… Maybe in some songs it’s doable like ‘Roses Turn’ or ‘On My Own’ but in an ensemble number like that its not really possible. Which is why I haven’t said anything about Cheyenne.. I haven’t seen him in the show or role..
So I would appreciate it if you would
a) stop calling her a little boy
b) refrain from judging a performance when you haven’t really seen it… If you go and see the show in Fed or March and still don’t like it I will except any opinions you have… I might not agree with them but they will be excitable because they are your opinions on the show and the actual performance.
you also need to keep in mind it is meant to be a family friendly feel good show not phantom deeply moving show.. fun.. smiling, laughing...

Very true. THIS IS NOT HAMLET PEOPLE.
Regarding Cheyenne, I have also seen him in several different shows and always walk away thinking that his acting talent, voice, charm and comedic timing outshine his good looks BY FAR. I don't think there is much that this guy cannot do. I have every reason to believe that he is going to be excellent in this show...

Posted: 11/29/04 at 10:40amPennylou, your tone is laughable with its sterness and your demands of me. Might want to use your spell check if you'd like me to take you a bit more seriously. And to be clear, I never once referred to your favorite actress as a "boy" in this thread. I was simply pointing out that you can't lump HER into the same category of people who have only had three weeks of rehearsal. And it's not judgeing a performance based on half a song but if that's the BEST they have to offer,if that's what they thought was the best representation of their show, they're in some trouble. Again, nothing either of us thinks makes a darn bit of difference in the real world, so as I always say, who cares? Updated On: 11/29/04 at 10:40 AM

ya know what.. just becasue i tend to have a problem with spelling doens't give you the right to treat me like I am any less of a person!
second I know you didn't call her a boy in theis thread but you have on a few other ones
3rd it doens't really matter becasue this show obviopuslay isn't one that YOU would be interested in.. thast fine, but I still you you shouldn't say things against it or the performers in it but one performance, there first one at that..

I think it was funny that the male lead already seems to have more depth simply because it's NOT Manley Pope playing him!
I'm still really excited about this show. Yeah, it looks like it's fluff, and the music is so Mamma Mia like, but I had too good of a time to trash it. Entertaining to a T. And I still can't get over the great use of the homosexual undertones. Pretty much makes the show. Kind of like a Full House episode.

Albin, sorry. I've seen to many guys wearing wigs in shows so I figured he was too. All the pictures In all the pictures I've seen of him, he has short hair and his hair was longer and floppier here. Sorry.
Al Dente, you have no idea about this show so I suggest you just stop bad mouthing it. I have seen it. PennyLou has seen it. A few other people on the boards have seen it. All of the people I have asked loved it. It is a good fun show. If you don't think so, that's to bad.
GirlfriendFromCanada, the homosexual undertones were great

i beg to differ with a poster here who stated tha the "sorry state of Broadway" was another thread.
it may have been another thread, but the "All Shook Up" performance at this year's Thanksgiving Day Parade was concrete proof of the sorry state of Broadway.

I am so relieved to know that I will not accidentally end up sitting next to either Al Dente or Marquise at one of the many performances that I plan on attending of All Shook Up.
Cause to celebrate.
As for Al...Honey,better use spellcheck 'judgeing'is spelled...judging.
Jenn Gambatese is how you spell her name...Not Gambetese.
As far as how you see her...You have had it in for her since day one...Call her a boy (twice)...personal attacks are your specialty...You say ...neither she nor this show are anywhere on your radar...Yet you know all about how long she has been with the show.
Reminds me of a time this summer when you were talking about another actors looks...Only to have your sorry posts deleted...then you post about why your posts get deleted...only to have them deleted...Was nice on the boards then...not much from Al...
Like I say...Thankyou God...will not get stuck next to you...

Don't worry about the hair color. 'Way back when, Jill Haworth played dozens of previews as a blonde Sally Bowles in the original production of CABARET. It was only just before the show opened that the production team suggested she go brunette for the role.
With that in mind, Cheyenne may opne in New York with dark hair.

Posted: 11/29/04 at 5:25pmIf I'm not mistaken, there's a line of dialogue referring to the character's blond locks and sparkling bright blue eyes. Neither of which Cheyenne possesses naturally (at least, I don't think his eyes are bright blue). So either they change that line, or we're going to be having a blond Cheyenne (perhaps with contacts!).

Yeah he said something about looking in his baby blues, i remember :)
I think the blonde hair is also just to harden the fact that he is not Elvis.
