I tought Idina was the only one who truly screamed it.
that music is definatelyt not written to be shrieked... listen to ana gasteyer sing it *cough*limewire*cough* compared to idina

I don't care what others say, Shoshana's vocals in the role are astounding to me and although I thought her wizard and I is really weak, her No good deed is incredible, better than idina's imo. However I have a totally different take on her personality to fans sometimes
I agree with Wicked Geek ...i love that they look younger and i think Shoshana Bean is fantastic
Bettini--you claim to not like Shoshana. You said, "I do not like her or her singing." Do you even KNOW her? Have you even taken the time to go to her official fan site and read the Q&A's she has submitted? The numerous Journal entries talking about charity and giving back to the community? Shoshana signs an average of about 300 autographs per night, and it ALWAYS in good spirits, and is always taking pictures.
I could really care less if you don't like her singing, but if you are going to say she "shrieks" or "screams", have an understanding of the word first.
But don't attack the person she is when you have yet to do anything to change your obviously bias and hateful opinion of her.

I saw Ana in Chicago and I loved her. I thought she sang it so well and didn't seem to strain for any notes or anything. I enjoyed the Chicago cast more than the Broadway cast.

i thought shoshana was amazing. her no good deed gave me chills. i was literally freezing in my seat from the goosebumps. her defying gravity is great, and she hits those option notes so well. i thought she did really well acting the role, too.
i thought megan was great, too. her popular was just awesome. she sang the role lower, and didnt go into her higher register until thank goodness. i remember thinking "ok, shes singing it almost like its an alto role, what the heck!?!" but then thank goodness came, and she hit that last note like kristin and i thought "WOW."
i really think that both women really deserve to be there. they both really look the part, they do a great job singing and acting, and they have great chemistry on stage.
I admit, I have very high standards because I study at Juilliard, but Shoshanna's voice and Megans are just not that impressive.
Honestly I love Megan Hilty's voice. But Shoshana's voice irks me just a little bit. It's very powerful but the way she shapes her vowels sounds a little odd (wow I just sounding like my choir teacher...). I also did not really like David Ayers voice. He just can't hit most of the notes. Ben Vereen is amazing. Rue McClanahan, well I'm a little biased because I'm a Golden Girls fan but I guess she's okay. Too much talk singing.
I meant her acting...god I worded that wrong.
I don't know her, but I have heard mean things about her and what she's has done to fans, and being really stuck up and saying things in a very "I'm better than everyone" sort of way.
WillAct4food, leave me the hell alone and let me have my oppinion. I don't care if she screams or not, I do not like her voice. Get it....stop trying to convince me that she's a god. I don't care wether you like her or not.
If the Queen aka Shoshana did say that about the paycheck and the limo ride..
Then she is an ungreatful B*TCH. And if she didn't say that, I apologize. But if she really did say that, I lost any ounce of respect I had for her. We already know how she feels about Broadway, and that limo and paycheck comment takes it to the next level.
And I don't care if Shoshana is reading this right now. She can use an awakening..and realize she is nothing but a C-list performer on Broadway.
Megan seems like a lovely girl though.
Megan is really, really sweet.
Lol, I'm not going to leave you alone until you realize that we don't take your rude comments and closed mindness on this website, alrighty?

I would just like to say that after seeing Shoshana in Wicked my first time, I quit smoking and stopped cutting myself.
I have seen her 3 times since and have since been cured of my eating disorder and have regained the use of my left arm, which was paralyzed in an accident in a plastics factory in Chicago in 1992.
In fact, I like Shoshana in Wicked so much that I have even coined the term, "the Shoshana Bean effect," used to describe the consequences of seeing a performer you like so much in a role, whereby all previous and all subsequent actors to play that role can only pale in comparison. Example:
Person: "You know, after seeing Lauren Kennedy in The Last 5 Years, I have to say Sherie Renee really doesn't cut it for me..."
Friend: "Well my friend, that's just the Shoshana Bean effect."
I love you Andy. Can I have your children?
I mean...if you aren't already asking Shoshana to do that
Megan is a genuinely nice woman and she actually cares about other people. I haven't had a good encouter with Sho for quite some time. She is rude and a diva, but for what. I'm sure she thinks shes so hott because she plyed Shelley in Hairspray. It's so stupid that she thinks she's amazing.
I love Andy, but Shoshana more! The woman is INCREDIBLE.

Hahaha Im guessing that since the days of Shelley she has grown just a little bit prouder and seems to think she can be nice to a big crowd but one on one is nothing like what she appears to be

I completely agree...however, I think we will all always favor Idina and Cheno...or for those who've seen the tour StephanieIdina and Cheno.
these threads make me sad.
oh, and bettini.. its kristin, with an I. that just drives me crazy.
EDIT:
i just found this quote on sho's broadway.com star file-
"I am so excited. It's like one of the greatest female roles ever written. I am totally humbled and flattered that they have entrusted it to me. And I am humbled not only because of the greatness of the role, but to be taking over for Idina [Menzel], who is so amazing." -- to Broadway.com on taking over the role of Elphaba in Wicked (12/04)
now does that sound unappreciative? i think not.
Kendra will always be my Glinda and Stephanie my Elphie. I haven't seen the current cast nor original, though i'd kill to see Idina and Kristen together in Wicked.

Silly, Juilliard isn't a HIGH SCHOOL.
Aigoo, you never cease to amaze me
