David walked into the valley With a stone clutched in his hand He was only a boy But he knew someone must take a stand There will always be a valley Always mountains one must scale There will always be perilous waters Which someone must sail -Into the Fire Scarlet Pimpernel

For the sake of aesthetics and to stay in the mood, can we keep all reports of what happened tonight in this other thread, please:

PHANTOM PHESTIVITIES

I mean seriously, do we really want a summary of tonight's amazing event in a thread with the first 40 posts about non-related ambulances?

Thanks!

Gee, SQ, that's right. It wasn't anyone in the PHANTOM theater, so nothing to be upset about. It was only regular people in those ambulances.

WHEW.

Hey, you remembered when I joined the Broadway.com ( not BWW) board, Namo re: Ambulances at POTO? - that was almost three years ago when I talked about Chitty...I did say CHITTY would charm many people, but I didn't say it would happen for years and years. Sorry, if Broadway fans didn't give it the welcome it deserved, as it is a whimsical story intended for a certain niche.

Cheers!

Ambulances are in front of theatres all the time. Medical emergencies are not at all uncommon. Angels in America had their show stopped many, many times for illnesses (and death, in a few cases) of audience members (as many of that show's audience were advanced AIDs patients).

Very frequently an audience member will need some sort of medical assistance and it doesn't disrupt the show at all. Seriously, people, calm down. This sort of thing is much more common than you think.

When I saw this title, I immediately had an image in my head of crazy phans trampling each other and whacking each other with Playbills...

I can just imagine them already having thought of that with buttons to tag the deceased with that read:
"I DIED at the longest running show ever - PHANTOM!"

Not to summarize the evening, just to address a couple of things mentioned in this thread.

First, in terms of when someone estimated the show would be over--it's always later at these things. The show usually starts a bit late, even later than 8 minutes after reported times, but it wasn't that long today...then again I think I got there at 6:30...but intermission...rich famous people do not like to be rushed! It was quite amusing, I knew this would happen, watching everyone in the lobby, watching them flash the lights and nobody move, watching people try to yell at them to return to their seats, nobody move, and finally when people were clearing out, passing the orchestra on my way up to mezz and hearing some people say...what do we do, how can we make them sit down? It was funny.

And Dollypop, in my people-watching, one of the faces I recognized was indeed Rob's. Sorry, didn't really notice his tux.

"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
