That's a damn shame. I saw it on Saturday afternoon and I was impressed. It exceeded my expectations. Given a couple more weeks to ease into the very difficult dialogue (and to find ways to not make Falls' AWFUL direction look so aimless), it would have been a truly excellent production that I think would have had some critics eating their hats. It is possible. Look at LuPone in GYPSY. Trashed off-B'way; hailed as one of the great stage performances only months later. Not that I'm saying this would have been one of the stage greats, but it certainly would have improved. The performances were very good. It's the direction that really brought it down.
Sad.

I think its disgusting the way the producer treated the company with his 'oh I'll see how I feel after the show on Sunday' attitude to keeping 20 or 30 people in work or not.

It did not close due to the recession
It got poor reviews & it was mamets weakest play. The high ticket prices for it did not help either.

Well, not that nationality has anything to do with it's closing...
And it's a shame that this closed. I'd been dying to see it even with its awful reviews.

I feel sad for everybody involved that it has closed so unceremoniously.
Good to see I'm not the only one getting fed up with random outbursts of Yankophobia...

Must be someone who could be respectable but has had too many drinks and egotistical errors to think straight.

My first experience of a Mamet play was this Broadway production from 1983 with Al Pachino.
It played the Duke of York's Theatre in London's West End for just 4 weeks and to get a ticket was a real feat.
It was nearly 4hrs long and I remember every single second from curtain up till curtain down.

Posted: 11/24/08 at 10:36pmI enjoy visiting the boards here, but I have become so tired of BWW's lazy reporting that I don't even bother to look on the front page anymore. Go to Playbill.com: they're always right AND they proof their articles before posting.
