I had only heard the recording a couple of times and really knew little about the show or the staging other than a couple of TV clips. Not being a Green Day fan, I just didn't think the was the show for me, so my last trip to Broadway, I opted to see Priscilla instead of American Idiot closing weekend. I left Priscilla at intermission. Just saw the American Idiot tour last night and realized what an idiot I was for skipping this on Broadway. Holy crap, I loved it! I thought the staging and choreography were breathtaking and the cast is incredibly talented. At the end of the show, my 66 year-old mother leaped to her feet and said, "I have to see it again!" I agreed. Probably going to go back next weekend before it leaves Chicago and spring for better seats (we were in the balcony). I did not expect the show to be as visually poetic as it was and while the plot was thin, the artistry was rich. This show has gained a very unlikely, yet enthusiastic fan.

I was a huge fan of it when I saw it in NYC last march and was so happy I was able to make it in from school to see it while it's in Chicago. I actually just got home (im about 3 hours south of Chi) and am still beaming. Joshua Kobak was an awesome St.Jimmy and I think I actually liked him more than Davey Havok in the role. Van Huges was wonderful, had really great voice and I was happy to finally see him as I had his understudy last march. My only real gripe with the show was that Scott J. Campbell's voice as Tunny was a little weak for my taste. I thought that both Van and Jake Epstein (Will) were much stronger vocalists and since Extraordinary Girl is my fave song in the show I was a little upset about that. Also Epstein had some really lovely moments while stuck on the couch. Overall, this was a top notch tour and am so happy I got to see this show and hear this music again.

I saw it on Thursday and agree that it is a great tour. However, I must admit that the original Broadway cast was better (saw them twice). I am glad that most of the scenic elements made it on tour (minus the suspended car and the elevated platform). I am excited to go back sometime next week.
Mister Matt, just try to get a Hot Tix ticket. I payed about $50 for a great orchestra seat, although it might have been because it was a Thursday night.
