So with the Hedwigesque new St Jimmy plot, is Jimmy still a rogue aspect of Johnny, or genuinely a different person? Shades of Hedwig/Tommy either way.
Yeah, the Hedwig-esque overtones are pretty strong, now that I think about it. Most of that club tour plot onscreen is about Johnny's obsession with St. Jimmy's girl (I forget the character name-- is that whatshername?) and the more and more debasing things he'll do to be with her. St. Jimmy seems to be not so much a doppleganger as much as the cautionary tale of the road Johnny would go down if he's not careful. (If you check out my previous posts, you'll realize what great casting they're contemplating for St Jimmy...)
If it's possible for the movie script to be even darker than the stage play, this script manages it. But it's also full of ecstatic sequences of joy and wonder too. A full meal.
