Posted: 7/1/10 at 1:02amAnyone think that AI should record their version of Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)? Even though it's just an encore, it still is an enjoyable moment in the show. After all the cast of Shrek recorded "I'm a Believer" when it was added to the score. Plus, it would get a great number of downloads from iTunes with the cast album getting #2 in it's week of release. Anyone agree?

Posted: 7/1/10 at 6:23amI bought the OBC. I never listen to it. I prefer to listen to Green Day directly. I thought the cast sounded FABULOUS live, but there is no soul on the cd, I wouldn't spend more money on not listening to them.

I really disagree with you Dramamana611: I love the OBC,listen to it every day: I think the cast sounds great --of course they can't have the same energy level that they do singing live, but IMO, it's the next best thing. Anything that affords me to listen to John Gallahger Jr and Tony Vincent on the same CD is heaven to me.
Oh, Yeah...I wold love an OBC rendition of GOOD RIDDANCE

I definitely agree. I absolutely LOVE the cast recording (I also love both the Green Day albums that it's taken from).
I love Good Riddance and was disappointed that they didn't include it as a bonus track.

Posted: 7/1/10 at 7:50amI believe in an earlier listing of the songs for the OCR, "Good Riddance" was the bonus song but was replaced by Green Day's "When It's Time" instead. So, a recording version may exist somewhere.

Posted: 7/1/10 at 6:50pm"Good Riddance" butchers the end of the show and I have no clue what Mayer was thinking when he tagged it on. It's just as well it didn't make the recording. That being said, the talented cast might make it almost worthwhile.

Good Riddance reaffirms how its basically a big Green Day concert on Broadway instead of an actual show.
But even still I loved the show. Completely agree with dramamama611. I was blown away by the show' arrangements (props Tom Kitt) but was absolutely pissed when I heard the CD. It gets (slightly) better on repeat, but is nothing like the actual stage show.

Posted: 7/2/10 at 1:51pmA few songs on the recording capture the essence of the show - I remember that "Know Your Enemy" jumped out at me on my first listen. Overall though, I also concur with Dramamama - the sound is overproduced and processed. "Letterbomb," fierce on stage, is poorly served by the recording, and that's true for far too many numbers.

While I do have the American Idiot cast recording, I do agree that it does sound too over produced and not as good as it could be. Hell, I feel that the cast album for Spring Awakening is the same way.
But, I digress. I feel that saying that American Idiot is nothing more then one big Green Day concert onstage is like saying that something like Tommy is nothing more then one big Who concert onstage. I can go on on till I am blue in the face about Green Day changing their story about how they always pictured American Idiot to be for the stage. But, regardless of that fact, the original album is a rock opera.
