Posted: 4/24/21 at 9:32amIt feels like less of apology and more of an owning of his reckoning. He has to live with the decisions he made to be complicit and is now aware of the ripple effect of his complacency. It’s terribly sad and makes it even more clear that all of Rudin’s “friends” know exactly what he does. Don’t tell me Midler doesn’t know he abuses people. When she praises him on an awards platform she is praising that he abuses them on her behalf. Sickening.

Chabon hit the nail on the head when he wrote this regarding his initial reluctancy to speak out against Rudin: Like so many but, thank God, not all of us, I left that feat of public bravery for other — less privileged — people to enact.
They are afraid to speak out and are leaving it up to others who don't have much to lose to do so. They may also be afraid to speak out against Rudin because he may very well have something damaging against them, again, they have much to lose.
I'm not saying it's right but that very well may be just some of the reasons Rudin's more high-powered clientele are not saying anything.
