Interesting....a revival of Dreamgirls using color-blind casting. I'm sure that'll go over swimmingly!

On another note, why in the world would any high school choose to do Dreamgirls? I can't imagine there are many high school girls that have the vocal chops to handle a role like Effie.

The idea is that Effie has "four eyes" to see what's really going on behind the scenes. Everyone else only has two eyes and is blinded to how they are being used by the system.

It also must be noted in the picture above that Effie made the character choice to sit through the entire song "And I Am Telling You". It symbolizes her refusal to leave.

Anika Noni Rose has an incredible voice. Her vocals in the CAROLINE, OR CHANGE recording are fantastic, particularly during the "No One Waitin'" track. Still, she could smooth her sound for Deena.
Syesha is good enough for Lorrell, and I can see her having a good time with "Ain't No Party."
Hudson played Effie once, she doesn't need to be stuck with the role forever.
