"And it's Beginning to Snow?"
"And it's Beginning to Snow?"#1
Posted: 1/21/08 at 10:20amI've been meaning to ask this for a long time, but I kept forgetting. In the song Christmas Bells from RENT, they keep repeating the line "And it's beginning to snow" throughout the song. However, when I saw RENT in November, there was no snow. Is it supposed to snow? Kinda stupid, I know, but I was just wondering.

Posted: 1/21/08 at 1:38pmthe snow that falls in RENT is extremely sparse. And it mainly falls at the beginning of that song, not at the end, right before Maureen comes out.

Posted: 1/21/08 at 1:46pmThanks! I think the snow thing must have been malfunctioning the night I saw it on tour, 'cuz there was no noticable flakes falling.

Seaweed,
EVERYTHING malfunctions on the Rent tour.

I just have to say, I love that song --- and the energy on the stage when it is done right!

Great song, great to see live. I have seen this on Broadway and several tours and I always remember the snow being very visible.
Perhaps the snow has been downsized.

Posted: 1/21/08 at 7:01pmIn all the times I've seen RENT back to 1997, the snow has never been that visible--the stagehands don't really have much to sweep away at intermission.

Posted: 1/21/08 at 7:02pmIt's called "imagination." A lot of things in Rent (and many shows) are left up to that. Why the expectation that this has to be literal?

Posted: 1/21/08 at 7:23pmWell, I was expecting something to fall because of the huge chord that is heard right after the first time they sing it. I was just wondering if there was supposed to be snow falling or if I caught it on a bad night.

I saw it last night too (the tour) and the snow was working. It didn't cover the whole stage, just a little area behind the sculpture.

Posted: 1/21/08 at 10:37pmI got my tickets through VFR (as admittedly lame as that is), so I was right orch, last row. What about you? I'll go look for your review now =)

Posted: 1/21/08 at 10:39pmI'll mention that I haven't noticed the snow any of the three times I've seen RENT. I think I'm too overwhelmed watching all the delightful chaos that is "Christmas Bells.
