Posted: 4/22/13 at 9:10amThanks, GavestonPS and bryan2, for your comments. Delaria is a terrific performer, and the "gender hate" comments do not belong on here. We already see enough of that in the outside world, let's continue to love theatre!

Posted: 4/22/13 at 11:17amI'm on the side of those who think there are some roles that are right for some performers and some roles that aren't. I thought Lea was terrific in the On the Town revival (not a universally held opinion), but still don't see her playing Vera Charles, who's supposed to be a major Broadway star in a hit 1920's operetta. Just doesn't scan for me.

Someone in a Tree2 - I see your point but since Bea Arthur originated the part and to many she was very tough gal..and not the ideal choice as what one would think of as a major musical comedy star of the 20s either...Lea had tough shoes to fill and believe me you would have been laughing -she was very funny and she can sing
The sets are basic ...use of video to show NYC and the countryside down south..and barn in CT.. so I think it will be fine in Bucks county...I dont know what they do about the orchestra because the one the other night was really good....so I hope they follow with them...

Posted: 4/22/13 at 6:49pmI'm not a huge DeLaria fan, but this concept of Vera intrigued me as soon as I heard of it. I wish it were a little closer so I could see it.

Lovebwy, "freedom of speech" gives you the right to say what you want without the government interfering. I don't see that violated here.
It doesn't protect you from other other people thinking whatever they want about what you say.

Posted: 4/22/13 at 7:10pmIn the way I think people who referred to themselves as "Type A" are just coming up with a cute way of admitting they are a-holes, I tend to think people who rail against "political correctness" are people who are admitting they want to go through life being an unmitigated dick.

Reginald Tresilian- several of my posts were deleted. Again I say free speech is not welcome around here.
Other guy- I HATE political correctness. I call it denying reality. I find Lea Delaria to be an altogether unpleasant performer. Do I need to pretend otherwise to suit your delicate sensibilities? LOL not gonna happen. As a gay man I find her over the top and angry.

Posted: 4/22/13 at 9:52pmI hate the constant use of "As a..." to start statements nowadays. Why on earth couldn't your sentence start with "I find her..."?

"As a gay man I find her over the top and angry."
And as a straight man, I find you to be over the top and angry. So there you go.
I'm guessing the very qualities you so loathe about yourself you see in her and that is at the root of your dislike for her.

I know, right? Inconceivable that my parents started taking me to broadway shows at age 10 and I've enjoyed live theater ever since yet have no desire whatsoever to bang dudes. Now see, you learned something tonight and had your horizons broadened. No need to thank me.
It is interesting though that if your belief is that the only males on here are gay, why would you feel the need to start off your comment with "as a gay male". If you believed that, wouldn't that go without saying?

"Reginald Tresilian- several of my posts were deleted. Again I say free speech is not welcome around here."
Again, I think you'll find there's no government involvement.

Posted: 4/22/13 at 10:36pmWho said anything about government? I said free speech isn't welcome here, and it isn't. How is this a wrong statement?

Posted: 4/22/13 at 11:03pmlovebwy I'll assume your posts were deleted because you didn't attack Lea's performance, you attacked her as a person. And coming from a gay boy, that's rich. Lea's lovey and a talented person who doesn't deserve you calling her gross. You sound like a child and I am certainly glad I don't know you.

What's all this got to do with McArdle? Is she a straight man?
Guess ya can't tell by the way they talk, these days.
