Angela Lansbury -"it isn't fair"

IIRC, Lansbury said "It isn't fair" to the other nominees in her category. What did she mean by this?

That it isn't fair they had to go against her :P? I'm sure if she did mean it like this, she meant that it isn't fair that people are bias towards her, not that she is some theatre god who is unbeatable through pure talent, hehe.

But still, I'm not sure.

I thought she meant it wasn't fair that only one person got to win, since all the nominees were excellent.

I assumed she meant that it wasn't fair that out of 5 great performances, only one of them could win, and she was it.

I was a little confused by it as well. I wasn't sure if it was one of those things that just came out wrong ~ or didn't exactly sound right ~ or what.

I also had the impression that Ms. Lansbury was referring to the award being a "competition" pitting actors against one another, and that it isn't fair only one can win. I believe she's spoken about this in the past as well as her appreciation of other actors (as she made clear in her acceptance). I suspect her comment "it isn't fair" as well as her apology for winning is simply another instance of this classy lady's graciousness and humility.

HAHAHAH That comment made me go, "What?" Then I realized it was supposed to mean that it wasn't fair only one could be chosen. It came out awkwardly.

Miss Lansbury was honoring the other nominees by stating that it was not fair that just one of them should be chosen as the best performance. She has too much class to have meant it in a negative way.

She's a classy lady. It was a very elegant speech.
