Was anyone else disappointed in the new production of Annie?
I was just plain bored with the whole thing. I thought the sets were terrible and cheap looking. The New Yawk accents were very over done. Katie Finneran basically sucked.
It seemed like the whole show lacked energy. What happened to the choreography? The orphans just jumped around on stage.
The theater seemed very empty. I was alone in my entire row. I had a great view from the mezzanine though. I would actually rather see Matilda again and I wasnt a fan of that show the first time LOL.
The theater felt too big for this show.
I miss the original production!

I've been reading that not always all lottery tickets for Annie get claimed so I was wondering what happens with the remaining lottery seats in this case? I'm thinking of trying a lottery for something else (which is at the same time as the one for Annie) but if I am not successful to go to the Annie box office and ask if there are any lottery tickets left over. Do you guys think that would be an option?
broadwayghost, that was a great story you could have shared in one of the other ANNIE threads. No need to make your own.
caadian, I doubt you can just walk up to the box office whenever you want to get leftover lottery tix (if there are any). I went to a GHOST lottery once that didn't give out all the tickets and they let people who showed up too late to put their names in take the remainder.

Thanks for the reply ClydeBarrow! I didn't mean at any time of course, but if I fail at the other lottery I want to do (which is at the same time) I'll arrive at the Annie lottery just when it has finished. So if they have any remainders I was wondering if they may still give them to me and my friend even though we will show up too late :)

That's a bummer that you didn't enjoy it! Our production here at Arizona Broadway Theatre was quite good and we had great feed back from the audience. There are always times though when a show does not live up to your expectations. I saw Phantom of the Opera in NYC many years ago and hated it, and that was all the craze at the time! Hope you like it better next time. :)
Broadway Ghost you hit the nail on the hit. This Annie is dull dull dull and an insult to the original staging. They have taken all the charm and nuance out of it.
In the original, the ending (New Deal for Christmas) included snow coming down from the skies
the tree lighting up, Annie coming to get her present and Sandy coming out of a box as a present for Annie and then curtain. It gave you chills ofsentiment up and down your spine for a happiness that could have been.
All of that was gone in this production. No snow, no lights, no Sandy out of the box.
The choreography was dismal. The Annie seemed like a prep school girl; not an orphan. And the wonderful Katie Finneran was misquided, misdirected and miscast. And yes I've said this on other boards but this revival was dismal in every way.
And so it begins.

Jane Lynch comes in May 16th so I would bet Katie would still be in on the 4th. ANNIE is not like MATILDA. Lilla is the only one playing the role. It seems like the lottery is sure bet at this point.

They are running tons of commercials for the show but not promoting Jane Lynch at all. Rally stupid marketing-as stupid as those awful commercials for Vanya......But I wonder if Jane will have any impact on the BO at all. Word of mouth is pretty grim. And she is not exactly Tom Hanks.
