Well I worked in NY state in 2006/2007 but only caught one Broadway show in that time! Its the first time my partner has been to NYC and he is a big musical fan like me! We're from the UK so we're going to see Hair in London before it closes in September. I've been looking into 'In the Heights' so thats a maybe! Not a keen South Pacific fan I have to say thou!?
I was thinking maybe West Side Story? What are people's reviews on that? Would have quite liked to have seen Little Night of Music so fingers cross the someone saves it and it keeps open!! Decisions Decisions!!

Posted: 6/1/10 at 12:18pmI know some people don't like this revival of West Side Story, but I did. Actually, now might be a good time to see it because of better cast changes since the original. At least I found it more enjoyable the second time around for that reason.

Posted: 6/1/10 at 1:14pmI loved the WSS revival. I was always a fan of the movie, and seeing the show on stage for the first time was very moving. I cried through almost the whole thing. I think you would enjoy it very much. I also really liked American Idiot...which doesn't have much of a story, but is visually stunning, and well performed. Welcome to New York! (a few weeks early). Hope you have a GREAT visit. I'll try to be sure it's not too hot that week. LOL.

I haven't seen the Broadway WSS revival yet, but I saw a production in Stratford recently, and realized that it was actually my first time seeing the show on a stage (as opposed to the movie.) If you've never seen it performed on stage, it is worth it to go, as it's quite a different experience from seeing the movie (better, IMO) and one I think any theater fan should experience. I know some here have their reservations about this particular revival, but I would still suggest going, just to have the chance to see a show that made Broadway history.
That said, I did see IN THE HEIGHTS and loved it, so that could definitely be another option.
