I am confused. These were not special republican only shows so what are they doing?

i may be stupid, but this is to keep them out of the theatre? oh i hope they don't do that to the gerdshwin! my cousins going tommorow!

The article says:

So they seemed to be aware that the show is closed. Maybe the people were just passing the theatre when this happened.
