#1Any advice for beginning playwright? Where to submit?

I was hoping to get some suggestions of where a fledgling playwright could submit a short one-act play. So many contests seem to require fees for entering. Not that that's always bad, though, I guess.

The two plays are both short one-acts and have not been produced anywhere.

Does anyone here have a favorite resource for information or any other advice?

So far we've submitted one play to the Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Short Play Festival. And Manhattan Repertory seems to be actively soliciting new plays: https://www.broadwayworld.com/off-off-broadway/article/Manhattan-Rep-Seeks-Submissions-for-Play-Production-Program-20171214

Also, there's a festival in Houston called Theatre Southwest Festival of Originals that's looking for submissions. Both these plays have a New York flavor. Would out-of-town regional theaters be interested?

Thanks for any advice!

Don't submit to Ken Davenport.

Check out my blog at blog.donnahoke.com and there are TONS of posts about this very topic. The #RIPP (Real Inspiration for Playwrights Project) is a 52-entry primer on how to get your plays in front of producers. There is a ton of information and education.

Thank you! That's exactly the type of resource I was looking for.

Try to find a Fringe Festival near to your locale. It's a lottery but if you win you can get a production.

Oh and don't pooh pooh this- that is where The Drowsey Chaperone and Urinetown the Musical were developed.
