Yes it will tour, and yes there will be modifications.
I still don't get why people hate the show so much...oh well...
And by the way the Broadway production will recoup its investment and will end up turning a profit...guranteed

Posted: 1/7/07 at 4:30pmI feel like it would be hell to tour with the show. If it does, the cast with be downsized and the spectacle of flying will be more like Peter Pan. I do not see how it could be the same in every theater....

It's not a huge cast to begin with so they my cut the chorus by a couple.
There will be certain theatre they will not be able to go into, but trust the folks at BVT (Buena Vista Theatricals) and WDI (Walt Disney Imagineering) to have it all figured out. It will not be the silly simple Peter Pan flying.

You're sure using every chance to state your dislike for Spring Awakening.

Because they don't have kick-line or jazz hands. She is just into what everyone else says is "cool."
Thank Goodness this show wasn't nominated for a Tony. They would have voted for it so it could be marketable on tour.

Yeah....
"Because they don't have kick-line or jazz hands."
But Tarzan doesn't have either.

Posted: 1/7/07 at 8:35pmI feel like Walt Disney just took a crap all over the Rodgers stage and then threw in some singing carpets to be gorillas and called it "Tarzan."

Personally, I am not a big fan of Tarzan from everything I've seen or heard. It seems to really sacrifice substance for spectacle, and I don't like that.
That being said, I think it's great that Tarzan is on Broadway.
When I was 7, I remember hearing about my favorite movie, The Lion King, getting a stage adaptation. I was ridiculously excited. I followed all the news on the show and begged my parents to take me to New York to see it. I'd go to the Disney store when I was at the mall to see the little preview for the show that came over the big TV screen at the back of the store. I auditioned for a play at the community center by my house and got cast. I was absolutely horrible, but I fell in love with acting.
Now, 10 years later, I'm a serious musical theater student and next year will be auditioning for college hoping to study musical theater. My tastes have totally changed - my favorite shows are of Sondheim, Guettel, and LaChiusa, not Disney, and I idolize performers like Audra McDonald, not Heather Headley (though she is very talented). I can honestly say that if it were not for The Lion King, I may have never gotten involved with the theater.
Last year, I played Cogsworth in a production of Beauty and the Beast. Every night, the house would be jammed full of preschoolers and elementary school kids completely captivated by what was going on onstage. I would walk out the stage door, and there would be little girls dressed up as Belle, unable to control their utter excitement and ecstasy as they waited for the girl who played her to walk out the stage door. One night, a group of five or six year old boys came running up around me and were wondering where my clock had gone and were so completely enchanted by the whole show. That moment made the entire process more than worth it for me.
Wrapping this up, yes Disney does not turn out true art, and yes Disney musicals are oversimplified and bawdy and over-the-top. But there is an undeniable and unrivaled magic in Disney that enchants most children. If Disney can make them come to the theater, they are in fact helping create a new generation of artists. And for that, they deserve respect and praise, however lackluster their productions are to the more "cultured" eye.

Posted: 1/7/07 at 8:50pmTarzan was nominated for a Tony. Why are you getting mad at me for not liking SA when this whole thread is dedicated to hating Tarzzan?? I like what I like, you like what you like. That's all. What do you call Fosse? That's real theatre. And almost all of his stuff has jazz hands or kick lines. Broadway should be saved for those kind of musicals, and off-broadway should be saved for shows like SA that no one has heard of. Tarzan doesn't have Fosse type of stuff but it is on a grand scale and done by legend Phil Collins, so it should be on Broadway. SA doesn't need a big theater.

Tarzan was nominated for one Tony, for it's lighting design, which it did not win. No other major nominations.
And I know you admit to being only 14, but Lizzy, dear, you lose credibility when you shoot another show down while at the same time admitting that you haven't seen it. But you are young. You will learn. I must say that I do admire your passion and conviction. And I sincerely mean that.

You give pretty dumb and invalid reason for not like shows. For example saying you didn't like SA because it didn't have a kick line or wasn't big or flashy. Tarzan was nominated for one tony for lighting design.

Posted: 1/7/07 at 9:09pmThat's not the reason I don't like SA. I don't like it overall, I don't think it's TRUE Broadway. It's off-off-broadway. Or regional. Or high school.

Then what is "true" Broadway. It's fine if you or, anybody for that matter, didn't like Spring Awakening. Just give better reasons. If you can't appreciate originality and unique theater(I'm talking in general about any show that isn't "big"), you are cheating yourself of a lot of good theater.

It's Disney-- I think it will end up touring.
But I most likely will not see it--was not a fan of the show.

I believe TARZAN will never re coup on Broadway, but no one will ever know because DISNEY never tells how much their shows cost to produce.
But the number I heard rumored was astronomical.
And it has been on TKTS for a while now, not a good sign for a new large show like this.

Posted: 1/7/07 at 10:41pmLizzy- If all "small" shows were banned from broadway there would be no diversity. There is no right type of musical for broadway, it's a place for ALL types of shows.
