Or is it just too impossible without a major overhaul of the show?
How much longer will it last on Broadway?
Thoughts?

Yes, it will tour. But right now they are preparing the first international production, to open in Amsterdam later this year.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

Not without some major re-thinking. There's no way you could tour with that much flying work.

A Tarzan tour would be hell.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

theyd certainly have to rethink adult tarzans first entrance and terk's second act entrance.

The fact that they didn't have an out-of-town tryout because the flying was that big of pain does not bode well for the tour. And I seriously doubt it would tour. If you take out some of the cool entrances, then you sort of take away most of the "magic."

If you think Tarzan won't tour than you must be smoking something good. It's DISNEY! $$$

I would think that the inflatable set would be easy to tour. And I'm sure they would be able to tour enough of the flying rigging to retain most of the spectacle. I mean how many years did they tour Peter Pan. I'm sure they could easily find a new way for Tarzan to make his first entrance that would still impress.

>>I mean how many years did they tour Peter Pan

In Peter, you really only have one major character flying. Yes, there's the number where the three children fly, but theirs isnt anywhere near as complicated as Peter's. Foy, which has made a career out of Peter Pan requires a week's set-up for any production of that play.

Now, compare that to the amount of flying used in Tarzan. Sorry, no way can they tour.

I just don't see Disney not touring anything they do.

I'm sure they will find some way to make it work.

Actually SeanMartin, I would like to clarify something. The PP tour that was out for many years required only a day (sometimes a day plus a half day) for setup before it was ready for the actors by 4 PM on opening day in any city. (I was on the show). The setup for other productions (regional, community and the like) did/does require longer in the area of 3 days, but that is not so much about the installation of hardware, but to "train" the locals, most if not all of whom have neither flown or done the flying.
That being said, TARZAN is indeed very complicated and would presumably require some sort of secondary flying "grid" that would travel with the show. It is do-able, but it is very iffy about how this would size into theatres around the country, and that is the real issue, I believe. (Someone with further knowledge of this please chime in).
Friday nights TARZAN performance was stopped mid way through Act 1 for about seven minutes because there was a snag with the first Tarzan entrance from the back. It's very complicated, but if anyone can make it work for the road it's the Disney folk!

Off subject majorly, but does anybody know if "Mary Poppins" has a chance of touring ever?

It will tour Hell before it tours on Earth. God bless the tour crew . . .

I'm sure both Tarzan and Poppins will tour. I can't imagine Disney not touring their newest shows.

Tarzan would be hard to tour due to the fact that the venues would have to have their backstage area's squishe to death.

Mary Poppins I would find easier to tour. Maybe, a la Peter Pan, Mary COULD fly over the audience.

My prediction is that they'll try to fix the show with a new director, and then tour that version.

Yes, Peter Pan loads in VERY fast. The standard rig for that show includes one track and three pendulum points and that is it. Fast in and fast out. The national tours usually have a one day turn around for the ENTIRE production. Local stagings, as have been said, only require longer to train local jobbers who work with the equipment and having the cast learn w3hat to do. Actually, I think the rig for Tarzan wouldn't be that hard to tour since the show is set and frozen and most of the rig is self contained and automated. They would need to rethink some things due to the VAST overuse of that damn trapdoor/elevator, but it is very doable.

Lizzya, once again, you are wrong. They were casting for the international production and for several ensemble tracks. In addition, every production contract show must hold auditions every six months regardless of anything.

Moving on

Oh, love, they are both making money, believe me.
I'm glad people around here are just fans and not producers, really.

And of course Tarzan will tour. Just get out of your head that it will be identical to the Broadway production.

actually no, you are wrong, they are casting the national tour because they had auditions for it. It said in the breakdown "national tour, to begin in San Francisco early 2008"
