Every time I am in the city, I always walk around and view the marquees on all of the theatres. But I always feel empty every time I see the Neil Simon with no show playing and an empty marquee...
Is there any plans to put a show there any time soon?

"Leave Walt Disney Theatricals new sparkling production of The Little Mermaid on Broadway alone!!!"
lakezurich will be played by Paul Groves in the BWW musical

Posted: 2/21/10 at 8:18pmDid they finally remove the Ragtime marquis? A friend of mine was in the city a couple of weeks ago and he said the Ragtime production photos were still outside.

Posted: 2/21/10 at 8:22pmI'd imagine the marquee is still up. Oleanna is still up. I'd imagine it would remain up until Love Never Dies decides to put up their marquee.

Posted: 2/21/10 at 8:24pmIn the past they would replace the marquis with a "See a Broadway show...." with the Ticketmaster number on there until the new marquis for a show went up.

Sorry Dottie, but your spelling of marquee is starting to irritate me. They are a marquee, not like the Marriot Marquis Hotel or Marquis Theatre.
Anyway, I've never seen them put that on the marquee, only where the pictures would be. That is how the one at the Golden is with the Oleanna marquee still up along with the quotes above the door.

Posted: 2/21/10 at 8:38pmThank you wdwfreak. I knew it looked wrong, but I think I had the Marriott Marquis in my mind when I spelled it. Then again, a nicer way to put it would have been, "I think you might have meant _______". But that's just me.

Posted: 2/21/10 at 11:59pmThe Ragtime marquee is still up. And those "See a Broadway Show" replacement marquees on empty theatres happens just for Shubert/Telecharge houses, though I don't see them around that much anymore.

Posted: 2/22/10 at 12:14amI love that house. I saw Annie there so many times. Did you know it was called the Alvin because it was built by producers Alex Aarons and Vinton Freeley? (They ended up hating each other, I believe.) I have the 1927 opening night program. The show was "Funny Face" with the Astaires. What a storied theater.
